Really good video! I had to buy a macbook and be an intern in two companies for the same time (Quitted my job to maintain the internships). I think iOS development is on the top right now, and if there's someone willing to start, he/she doesn't need to hesitate about it.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, David. I will be soon begin to learn iOS Developer skills. I enjoy creative pursuits. And solving problems.
For me, the potential opportunity benefits far exceed the perceived costs of learning new valuable skills. And learning is fun!

Thank you for all your valuable insightful commentary. :)

Thank you do much Dave for sharing your story! You have mentioned at one of your previous videos that you ended up finding first job at CVS in Chicago.
Would you please share any information concerning potential income junior IOS developer can expect in the Chicagoland?

Hey Dave, i have recently joined a startup where i am developing an app on Flutter for iOS, i do have a Mac for the development and am in the process of setting up an Apple developer account. I wanted to know if i will need an iOS device too for continuing the process of development and testing in future? Will an iOS device be absolutely necessary at some critical point in the future till the app is ready to be published on the App store?

THAT 👏 COULD 👏 HAVE 👏 BEEN 👏 A 👏 TESLA 👏 Now I'm thinking about my costs for becoming a software engineer (went the university route with 4 years of opportunity costs) and now I want to cry. Great video Dave!

The math on this is all wrong. This was not opportunity costs. Was the bootcamp actually 41 weeks? You don't take the amount of your earnings, you take the net that you would have made. If you're at 60K and you have two incomes, you probably pay 25~50% in total state, federal and other taxes.
This was an interesting approach but, IMO, foolish. The entry level jobs in iOS are very hard to find. The iOS stack has been around for over 10 years now and the last listing I checked, there was only one opening that was an intern, the rest all wanted proven experience. Without a background degree or past real world work in the industry, this was a big risk. Even now, it's not very safe until you hit about 3~5 years.
Interesting story, hope it all pans out, but it wasn't the path I would have taken. It would be interesting to hear more about the bootcamp and how effective it was.

I'm not advocating that it should cost anyone this much or that one path is right for everyone, just sharing what my journey looked like in the hopes that other people who are considering a similar career change have this as a reference to make their own fully informed decision.

I also have another vid about the entire process that it took me to land my first iOS role after deciding to quit my job, if you are interested in more details:

Thanks for watching💙

As far as the tuition goes, I think you for a banging deal on the education. Some bootcamps are soooo expensive. Finally catching up on videos haha!
