I am 55 and I have learned that no company is going to treat you like family. It’s not about people it’s about money. This is true even in human services like hospital care.

Good luck my man. Two decades is a lot of time and commitment.

Companies are no longer loyal. You can be let go any day for any reason. Always have a backup plan. Today's work environment is extremely volatile. Even in the medical field. Good luck bro.

No company cares about their employees. You’re just a number.

We've all gotta brace for the upcoming pain. Do not buy a car or make frivolous purchases from now on.

Many years ago in college I had some wise professors tell a bunch of us BBA students to stay the Hell out of retail, that it was unstable and was going to be a more unstable source of employment in the decades ahead. Very thankful about that!

Keep your stimulus for yourself not the economy. Save it, pay off debt, invest in a ROTH. Take care of you.

I worked at Best Buy for close to 8 years. Lost my supervisor position in a reorg. They laid me off while I was at home on leave of absence recovering from a surgery. No warning from other managers I thought were my friend, just got a call one day while recovering from surgery, that I’m not coming back from LOA. I started in 2014 when Hubert Joly was the ceo. The company was so fun to work for for a while. Had out of town sales training, vendor shows, just an awesome job overall. Then corie Barry took over and it went to shit very quickly. I hope you found something you are enjoying more!

Early 2000s was the best time to work for Bestbuy. Back then, you could actually make a living working on the floor.

Sad to hear this man. I spent 10+ years with Best Buy Geek Squad. Leaving ended up being the best thing. So I wish you the best of lucky with whatever you do next.

You didn't deserve to get fired i hope all goes well for you. Managers, general managers and corporate are the reason why their business are falling apart

This got recommended to me randomly, and I just wanted to say God bless you! You have a great head on your shoulders and I'm sure there is something much greater coming your way.

I wish you the best of luck finding a new job, and remember God is the one who provides, and if he provided you so far believe that he'll continue.

It's going to really suck getting laid off during the pandemic because everybody and their damn brother looking for a job who lost their job and depending on your age it's going to be harder to find a job even though you have 21 years of job experience over everyone else so there's going to be like 220 people playing for maybe five to eight job positions

Sorry you got let go. Hopefully this is your getting pushed out of a burning building moment. Like when I got let go from Radio Shack years ago. Thought it was the end of the world at the time but how in hindsight it was the best thing to have happened to me.

Age makes it harder, but not impossible to find a job. A 78 yr old friend was laid off and after many months of looking, just got a job at the airport - parking cars for Avis. Thank you Avis for giving him a chance! Also, our public school system is hiring bus drivers, substitute teachers, and classroom monitors (who will be an adult presence in the classrooms where the teacher cannot return to the classroom, but are teaching online). They are even paying good money for monitors to stand in the hall and manage the number of students entering the restrooms. Wishing you the best! Be sure to let your friends and synagogue know that you are looking for a job and get a professional to help you with a resume

Well, the one thing I don't miss of the three years I worked for BB from 1999 to 2001 was the insufferable pressure to sell Product Service Plans (PSP) and Product Replacement Plans (PRP). What I do miss, though, was the employee discount. For someone like me at the time who was going to tech school and scraping the bottom of the barrel financially, I can thank BB for facilitating my very first true 5.1 channel home theater system build. That discount was awesome during those three years!

When I worked at Best Buy, the official policy was that only management was allowed to lie to the customers. It was a crappy place to work at and the biggest incompetence was at the managerial level. I have never regretted resigning from that horrible company.
