I like being praised, but being told that you're smart in front of other people, for example a friend introduces you to people you don't know, is very unpleasant. It gives you a responsibility to prove yourself and now other people have expectations about you, and I don't like proving myself to other people in this sort of way.

Boss: Why can't you take a compliment?
Me: How about instead you pay me what I'm worth and leave me alone to do my job.

If I'm really that smart, why aren't you listening to me? Don't give me compliments, PAY ATTENTION.

I feel the same way about poeple constantly saying I love You to everyone around them. Really waters down the meaning of it if you use it constantly. Keep it special, keep it rare. That being said, the platitude is nice even if it doesn't mean much.

Telling people how intelligent they are opens a can of worms. Suddenly any insecure people in hearing distance feel judged by the world as being stupid, and want to "show that INTJ" how they really aren't that smart.
The INTJ can feel the expectations and duties to be perfect (and the INTJ knows they aren't perfect). It's like "the eye of Sauron" will soon be upon them. Not an invitation to the usual friendship.
"Help a person when they are in trouble, and they will remember you... the next time they're in trouble."

I’m an intj, and I hate getting compliments, I know my worth and I’m not waiting for somebody to praise me. I know that they think this could make me happy, but believe me it makes me uncomfortable with my own self. When I do something or excel in something, I do it for my own sake, I’m not waiting for any compliments, if you have something to say that will help me achieve my goals, I’m here to listen, but if you want to praise me, please don’t!

So true, i prefer much when people listen my suggestion and act like the way i suggested than hear: you are so smart ... different satisfaction

Tbh as an INTJ.. i don't need compliments or recognition from anybody ... I know my worth, my weakness and strength and that's what all matters to me.

I don't get many compliments, so I'll take whatever I can get. I may be suspicious of a compliment from a stranger because it may be insincere, an attempt to soften me up for a sales pitch, but I'll still take it.

We don't validate our self esteem from external resources.
Personally, compliments to me are quite manipulative opinions from people who have little relevance to my self esteem.

It sounds so arrogant, but it never comes from that area of thinking (i've been told all my life how arrogant i am).
I dont usually like being told i'm intelligent because i'm then reminded of how little i actually do know.

I don’t prefer to come off as arrogant gloating of my intelligence. It just means I can analyze things perhaps more quicker than others. But learning to appreciate the compliments.

I have a friend who always ask me "why are you so good at everything" or says that I´m smart ect. I have never taken the compliment in. idk why, but i think it´s because it is too unspecific. the best compliment I have gotten, has been after an Exam. the teacher says the exact same thing. that I´m smart and a good at analysing. I think it´s because in the secound example, my teacher is complimenting my strengths in relation to my work, and therefore it feels like it has a reason, and therefore I take it seriously

As INTJ, I love compliments when I get them . Since they are rare . However if you compliment an INTJ, too often he might think that you are trying to be just nice to him, because you are looking down on him. That's not true ofcourse, however INTJs think like that due to our strong critical and overthinking nature.

I think it's good to compliment for the effort someone puts in. INTJs work hard for their goals, but it looks effortless, because they don't complain and don't show off, so others always just praise the result, not the work.

I appreciate praise. It lets me know you trust my judgment and that you’ll stay out of my way….
