The best hot hatches of the 2010s

Finishing our series on the very best hot hatches of the last five decades we come to the last decade, a time of big change for the world of hot hatchbacks. While some got bigger, more powerful and a bit more… comfortable, others managed to stay sharp and attempt to keep that lightweight sharp drive spirit the hot hatch was born with. The 2010s saw the birth of the Volkswagen Golf R (following on from the R32) and the death of the Ford Focus RS. It saw the spirit of the Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk1 reborn in the Up! GTI and RenaultSport begin to decline from the top of the hot hatch tree. Which of these legendary hatches is your favourite?

Poor research. In your video is the 2nd and 3rd Swift Sports. Not the 1st and 2nd. You've obviously not driven the latest one at length either. You've just regurgitated what other reviewers have said - also not driving either car at length. Well, I have. I've owned the 2nd and 3rd Swift Sports since new. I've driven both at length. Driven hard too. The 3rd Swift Sport is definitely the better car in every way. It's more exciting, it's faster. More confident, grips better. It might not be NA, but that turbo engine is a peach. The car is lighter and more agile than the previous model too. Definitely the more fun car in my opinion.

Interesting, 4 VAG hot hatches in your choice but not the absolute best of the lot, the Golf, from
the standard GTi, to the Performance pack, Clubsport and TCR. Each of them is undoubtedly a better hot hatch than an Up, R, S1 or Cupra. And the Swift you talked about is gen 3.

This video is very poor. The Mk3 Megane Rs set the bench mark for fwd hot hatches at the very start of the 2010's, it was only surpassed imo by the latest Civic Type r.

What about the Astra OPC/VXR? 🤔 when it was launched in 2012 it had so much more than others in that category. In 2012 280 PS and 400 NM was HUGE and it still is. Ventilated Brembo breaks and a mecanical limited slip dif, Performamce seats, the 3 door Coupe look and a lot value for money. Absolutely underrated 😭

TBH expected much more in the (A-Segment as opposed to B-Segment) Pocket Hot Hatch sector beyond the Up GTi, even the Twingo GT was a disappointment since it's unusual layout had promise yet did not deliver.
