I have actually been drawing cars for a long time, and your advice is amazing. Simplicity at its finest.

My art teacher in junior high school made all the kids in the advanced art program do an architectural drafting course, and it was one of the singular best things I've ever done for my art. I got a firm grip on the basics of perspective, light source, vanishing point, etc from early on...I've viewed art through that lens since before I was even a teenager.

It's just all so useful no matter what kind of art you make.

I like how you explain and demonstrate in a clear manner. It makes it easier to understand the technique you're teaching.

Scott Robertson's How to Draw is the ultimate perspective guide for me

That's the most photorealistic drawing of the cybertruck I've seen.

Hearing the first sentence like that is a rollercoaster but it is so true

everytime I stumble upon one of your videos I get amazed by the clarity of your art teaching style. especially, when we were never taught art in school .

Alright this is mostly cause I’m a mechanical pencil buff, but what pencil is that cause now I’m intrigued 😂

Sean Gordon Murphy is a comic book artist who talks about this a lot in his demos. It really helps your construction drawings when you realise it but it takes some getting used to.

This works for stuff like the barrel of a gun or other cylinders in perspective. If you find the perpendicular “axel” of these round forms you can figure where the oval tends towards.

Cool lead holder, Proko 😁

I've tried so hard to figure out what's wrong with my car drawings and I think you just helped me out HUGE!!

Once I discovered that fact it changed my whole view on perspective !

I always followed Scott Robertson’s lesson on mirroring the ellipse along the minor axis. I never thought of the fact that the centerline is perpendicular to the vanishing point line. It’s so obvious I feel silly for never using it as a guideline in complex situations. Thanks!

Maybe draw a square, as in that 1st example, where wheels will be, in perspective. Then draw the wheel within it.

Thank you for not pulling out an oval template. I hated those things back when I took drafting. The ovals they made never touched the guide lines in the right spots, so I just free-handed ovals into the guide lines.

This is a great tip, but for beginners it might be better to construct ovals in squares. By using just the perpendicular line, it's hard to guess how "open" the oval is. Of course, with experience you can accurately guess, but it might make wheels look tilted when a beginner isn't able to guess the width of the oval correctly. By constructing a square in perspective first and then drawing the oval into it, the ovals will look more natural and have the correct width

Very important for technical drawing in design, particularly industrial design

Being an artist would really help out in my calc courses! I suck at drawing 3-d shapes in 2-d!

Architecture drawing classes had the most impact on my artwork. Handsdown better than any art class. Line weight, perspective, composition and even impressionistic drawing. Highly recommend "Architectural Drawing" by Rodney Yee.
