A classroom lecture on why this tool is so critical for the IT student and IT professional. The SCF.exe tool allows the tech to validate the operating system files. A great tool to determine if the operating system is a registry issue or a file issue. Why restore points are important to troubleshooting. You can run SCF offline. I will demo the tool. We will look at DART tools also. Understanding Windows Side by Side.

Your three latest uploads have been really good and informative for possible, or likely, future Windows troubleshooting.

Even after Mike corrected the CFC / SFC naming misquote, Lowell continued to refer to it as CFC!

Why does he call it CFC when it is clearly SFC? And in the description above, it says scf.exe?

I've always wondered what exactly is saved/restored on a System Restore Point. Since I'm unsure I never use it - don't know if it will fix or make things worse.
I thought it would save old executable files before a Windows update so you could put them back in case of trouble . Is it really only backing up the registry??
