In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to activate the new Windows 10 Ultimate performance power plan on your laptop or PC. This feature was added to the latest Windows 10 April updates that was recently released. It doesn’t matter if you’re running the Home or Pro edition of Windows 10. This will work equally in both cases. I also demonstrate how you can deactivate this feature if for some reason you find it unsuitable for your PC or laptop.
So first, the Ultimate performance power plan only works with the latest Windows 10 April updates, so if you want to experiment with this feature and a bunch of other new features that came with this update, then, of course, you need to first get the update on your PC. You can run winver command to ensure it says version 1803.

First, open the command prompt as an administrator.

For Ultimate Performance: powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

For High Performance: powercfg -duplicatescheme 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c

For Power Saver: powercfg -duplicatescheme a1841308-3541-4fab-bc81-f71556f20b4a

The ultimate performance option as Microsoft noted in a blog goes further to eliminate micro-latencies associated with fine-grained power management techniques, so basically making for faster performance. Although I’m not sure how much of a difference that would make, but I think this would be more obvious for higher-end PCs and laptops than for average user PCs. And of course, whatever improvement in performance you experience through these settings would come at an additional cost of power and processing resources, so if you are more conservative about your battery or power, and wouldn’t want your processor or graphics card to run high, then you might be better of with the balanced or high-performance options.
You can also deactivate this setting easily as shown in the end of the video.
