I understand completely!!! Dystopian and traumatic are the perfect words to describe my experience in high school. I lived the horror of sitting in class after class, day after day, with no hope of ever having anything positive happen. The classes were wholly irrelevant to real life and were run by angry, hateful people who had no business teaching. The teachers at my high school s**thole tended to treat students more like inmates than students. Trust me, no student wants to succeed in a supposed learning environment when the teachers do nothing but yell at you and always focus on what you do wrong, instead of trying to help a student learn and find what he's good at. The typical day in high school for me was equal parts hostility, verbal abuse, and mental cruelty. I finally reached the point of no return and dropped out. But years later, after getting my GED, I found my niche in higher education. I really enjoyed my time in college and law school and did well there...NO THANKS TO HIGH SCHOOL!!! Thus, more than 42 years after the fact, I can honestly say that high school was the most traumatic experience I ever lived through. That's my $0.03.

The GED no longer has the stigma it use to. You can still go to college with a GED. The high school diploma is great if you want to go to a prestigious college. Other than that, it no longer matters. Especially if you're going to trade school or the military.

I dropped out the middle of my senior year due to family problems. Now fast forward, few months later I'm trying to get my ged so I can go to college. I'm currently in the process to get my ged.

My grandma dogged my mom for getting her GED not a high school diploma. And i am 17 taking dual enrollment and going to a top university. So it gave me some motivation listening to her. And plus school teaches you to work a 9-5 job and doing years of schooling. None of my family members are successful. And so many people I know I working a 9-5 making barely enough in there 20s. And that won’t be my life. And many of the teachers that are teaching are making 50k a year at there job and many people make that in a month
