Cut the whole small enough the first time and you wouldn’t have to use tape

Or and hear me out, lay down the caulk in a line. Spray soap and water mix above and below (not too much) then wipe the excess in one swipe

Or you could just go get one of the countless tips made for this exact purpose. That purpose being correcting someone has no idea how to cut the tip correctly so this isn’t a problem at all because it really shouldn’t be.
