11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 BUT WHEN CHRIST HAD OFFERED FOR ALL TIME A SINGLE SACRIFICE FOR SINS, HE SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 FOR BY A SINGLE OFFERING HE (CHRIST) HAS PERFECTED FOR ALL TIME THOSE WHO ARE BEING SANCTIFIED.

15 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds, ”

17 then he adds,

“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is NO LONGER ANY OFFERING FOR SIN.
Hebrews 10 11:18

Where in the bible do you get the idea that a financial transaction can right a wrong in the eyes of God?

Thank you for the explanation. It's what I am longing to know for a long while. God bless you.

How is this any less corrupt simply because it's temporal? You're still selling grace. A bribe by any other name....

I am born and raised in the Catholic Church and something about this concept does not seem right. We praise and worship not based on a credit/debit syatem, the Good Lord reconciled our sins on the cross. The term indulgence in itself has negative connotations in itself. If people are participating in rosaries with their hearts set on what they are going to get than they have lost their way, we do it out of love and reverance towards God and what he did.

Only problem is its not Biblical. But when has that stopped the RCC? This worked a charm back when nobody was allowed to have a Bible eh?

Indulgences as just a concept are very reassuring to my faith. God can feel so distant especially when He is growing you. Your prayers and actions can feel so worthless. Then, you got old timey indulgences like:
" hey, you know that little bible verse you just read? If you repeat it 150 times, which is like 10 minutes, you can cut down a holy soul in purgatories sentence down by 205 years?"

Like, the power in these tiny prayers is made so clear. It makes me glad😅

I don't need indulgences. I only need God's grace of Salvation through Christ Jesus. And it's a free gift

How about some scripture on that? Chapter and verse

I appreciate the explanation, but indulgences still boil down to "give us money, and God will be more gracious to you." I'm not convinced by this defense.

"Derp"...Errr' ummm where's the chapter and verse for this? In my KJV Bible? I'm saved by Grace Alone. Me & Jesus got it all worked out."

Grace comes only from God. Where in scripture does it say that the church has the authority to give us “access” to Gods grace?

First, the church makes nothing possible. God does. Second, this was purgatory, which is temporary yet not in the Bible

Absolutely false. Nowhere in Gods word does it teach the practice of indulgences. The Council of Trent came up with this as an infallible teachings.
The Old Testament scripture that they stake their claim on concerning indulgences come from the fact that under the Mosaic Law, a person could offer a sacrifice for their sin and they would be forgiven, however not every sin had a sacrifice. For example if by the testimony or 2 or 3 witnesses, if a man and a woman were caught committing adultery or someone was convicted of premeditated murder, they were to be executed- stoned to death there was no sacrifice or forgiveness of this sin.

When Jesus Christ came to this earth, died for our sins and rose from the dead 3 days later then ascended into heaven, we were no longer under the law but under grace. That doesn’t mean we have freedom to sin but rather now an individual might find forgiveness of sin all sin if they repent and accept Christ as their savior.

A murderer today, if they realize their lost state as a sinner and come to Jesus for forgiveness and salvation will indeed be forgiven of all of their sin including murder, that doesn’t mean if he is caught and convicted and sentenced to death that he won’t have to face the consequences for his actions and face mans justice for his crime.
Or if a person sleeps with someone ( who they are not married to) and that person has a STD, but the person repents of it and is forgiven, they might still have to face the consequences of contracting the STD.

So in short only God can choose whether or not a repentant sinner faces any temporal consequences and punishment for their sin. The church doesn’t have that authority.

If God is complete and all powerful within logic and loves us, then why can't I go straight to Him for the healing the indulgences purports to provide access to? Why do I need to go to a middle man?

Jesus Christ is the answer, if men take this task as theirs then Christ died for nothing; but in fact Christ is Truth and all must go to Him and not to men.
“The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing, but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, made perfect forever.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭7‬:‭23‬-‭28‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬
