He didn't explain it very well so let me take care of that for you, so at the beginning of the movie kong is getting chased by some Saber dog looking things so when he leads them to his traps and one falls through the ground that being one of kongs traps and when it fell through a hole opened up and eventually kong goes down there to find another area in hollow earth and that's where skar king was trapped and when that hole opened up it created a way for him to get out, also when the hole opened kong didn't go down there right away he had an infected tooth that he went to the surface to get help and when he was on the surface skar king attacked the outpost and he couldn't attack it earlier because he was trapped and kong was there so once those 2 things weren't a factor anymore he took advantage of it.
