Comparing Site based with Hosted Telephony

Hello I am Richard Crabb of Naked Telecom. Thanks for watching this video. What I am going to do today is to make a comparison between site based phone systems and hosted phone systems. Now site based is where you actually have the phone system located on your own site, and hosted is where someone else is hosting the phone system for you, such as a telecom company.

With site based telephony typically you have a much lower operating cost particularly over time. It is more expensive initially but you gain, because over the months and years the costs are much lower for or a site based system compared to hosted. Although there is a capital cost – but we have a financial solution that will help you with that so the costs are low from the very beginning. A site based phone system is vendor neutral and that means you have a wide choice of equipment that you can use with it. Pretty much any kind of IP phone you can use. It also means you can connect other phone system and equipment as well as IT services. Our phone system supports a range of mobile clients; that is Android, iPhone, Mac and Windows. That means they can be on the internal phone network even if they are a long way from the office as long as they have access to the Internet. This is also possible to achieve with hosted. Integration with IT facilities such as Microsoft Exchange is much easier of you have a site based phone system. If it is hosted you have all kinds of security issues to overcome.

In terms of controlling your solution over a period of time so that you can make changes, add new sites, change users, then control is not easily achieved using a hosted solution because you do not own the system, so if you need a facility that they don’t provide then it is not possible. Quite a common example of that is music on hold solutions so that your brand is reinforced while the customer is on hold. There are other examples. And resilience is another key issue. With hosted there is obviously only one provider. If that provider fails you have lost all service with the exception possibly of just a few phones. With a site based phone system if can be connected to two or more providers so you’ve got complete resilience. You can even duplicate or triplicate your phone system, so you can have any degree of resilience. With a site based phone system you have complete freedom.
