I finally made it down to the Brattle last Friday (first visit in over ten years). I was excited finally to complete my collection of the Will and Ariel Durant civilization series. They had exactly the four volumes I was missing for five bucks each and in very good condition. As you so often say here, the Brattle provides! Now I just need to increase the frequency of my visits.

Watching Steve open a plastic-wrapped book, and knowing he handles paperbacks like someone hid bacon in the spine. I know it's destined to the same fate it'd find in a Beagle's jaws.

Beautiful. Tragic.

Someday I'm going to have to make it to Boston just for the Brattle.

Alas Babylon was required summer at Jesuit High School. Steve, you love the Jesuits, and will be happy too hear my sophomore English teacher taught us this story. At 14 I loved it and it scared the hell out of me.

Love the Brattle especially the sale lot. A Saturday morning visit is on my schedule this week!

Bookman in Orange, CA, is *my* Brattle. The outdoor sale carts aren't their strength... That honor is reserved for their humongous "New Arrivals" shelves - six or seven of them - which ebb and flow by the day and are, without fail, the shelves I spend most of my time perusing every time I visit.

Seems to me any “soup to nuts” tale of the life of turtles would end with soup, not begin with it.
