3:40 I once had a psychologist tell me I should say I'm "A person with bisexual" and instead of saying that I'm tall, I'm suppose to say I'm "A person with a height advantage"

JackSepticeye, Collen Ballinger, Rhett and Link, and Karl Jacobs have all been educated and dropped out.

As a gay autistic man, likening Autism speaks to conversion therapy puts it into perspective for me. I didn't fully understand how bad they were.

George Carlin would be rolling in his grave over “people with autism” lol. Even in the early 2000s he was talking about how people are afraid of the word disabled like it was dirty or bad. Man was way ahead of his time

I have to disagree with you on the superpowers thing. As a person with ADHD and ASD, I find it pressuring and sometimes a backhanded comment for people to call my special interests and abilities superpowers. I appreciate it as a way of encouraging kids with disabilities to be themselves, but sometimes it feels borderline like calling us inhuman, and a huge misunderstanding at some points. For example, I have ADHD and it makes me hyper and hard to focus, when people call my hyperfocusing a superpower it really makes me uncomfortable cause,
a. Hyperfocusing is something that can be done without ADHD it requires alot of paitience
b. I usually hyperfocus when my body tires itself out or gets bored and needs something to entertain itself
I think it's good to highlight the good parts of Autism and ADHD, but if we also focus on just that, it just plays into respectability politics and glamorizes disabilities without acknowledging the real world struggles it has economically, socially, and well physically and mentally.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the whole "next hierachy of human beings, " is a joke and a way to uplift the community, I just hope people don't take the wrong route and completely miss the point.
Anyway great analysis and video!!

wow i came from mark’s channel to gain another perspective on what he talked about and i’m so glad i came here. i’m not very educated about autism and i don’t pretend to be now either but i really feel like she opened my eyes to what autism is and i’d love to learn so much more about it. honestly love ur vibes, never change!

My sister (autistic) is in the middle of her PhD in engineering.
My dad (autistic) worked as an engineer on the channel tunnel.
My sister's partner (autistic) runs a peer support charity for autists by autists.
We are just as likely to contribute to advancing society as neurotypical people.

Its really hard to offend me. But trying to "trying to cure Autism" is something that pisses me off so hard. Especially when I finally started thinking more positive about myself and realizing having Autism isn't a bad thing.

He’s now deleted all the comments pointing out that the organization is bad. It’s so upsetting that he’s saying he’s “trying to help us” but at the same time silencing us.

Yep, I'm autistic, have a BA, an MBA, and am currently working toward a PhD in neuroscience. So... Mark ...what couldn't we do as autistic people? (BTW this is while having strong sensory sensitivities, multiple shutdowns, selective mutism, depression, anxiety along with the amazing benefits of hyper focus, a love of learning, a completely different perspective, a strong inquisitive mind, a talent for pattern recognition and systems design) Oh and I also managed a team of 5 people and a budget of $33m for four years. So... I exist to inspire others, is that it?

Honestly, I am kinda okay with blaming them for this. It is most certainly their fault that they did not include autistic people or celebrities in the discussion, they didn't research the group that they were supporting, and they just didn't listen to what the autistic community has been talking about for years. While all of them do seem well intentioned, intention means nothing when this will literally hurt people. Even though it seems like he's trying, even without the charity he went with, the video still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'm getting sick and tired of ignorance being an excuse, it's time they got their stuff together and listened to the autistic community for once.

this is so disappointing. i love a lot of the celebrities they mentioned and i know that this doesn't make them horrible people but they NEED to do their research. ignorance is no longer an acceptable excuse. also, i did hear a lot of people dropped out but as far as I have seen they didn't make any apologies or use their platforms to help educate people on why they were wrong/ why they dropped out. this would be a PERFECT opportunity for these people to raise awareness but it doesn't seem like any of them are going to use it :(

I love how he thinks we don't go to uni and get degrees. I have ADHD (diagnosed) and possibly autism (I have many traits) and I'm a student midwife <3

This is so disappointing. I have been watching mark rober for three years and I never expected him to do something like that. I hope he educates himself and makes sure to cancel this plan.

I was so glad to see that Miranda Sings (aka Colleen Ballinger) has pulled out of the event, she is one of my favorite people here on youtube and it would have been incredibly disheartening to see her support something like this.

Note: research has proven that generally autistic males actually like the repetition, where females tend to avoid it or do not focus on it. This is also the reason why autism in males is generally found quicker, as they require more repetitive routines etc.

*This does not mean some autistic females do not require repetition, it mainly means most do not.

This made me cry - especially when you started talking about first person language. Autism is who I am - not something I have that I need to be rid of. Thank you for this, Chloe!
