This is a really good video, it reminds me of the good old YouTube days. I'd expect this level of insight to be paywalled behind Skillshare. Thank you so much for this in-depth critical thinking exercise.

I admit I wasn't expecting much, just a bunch of historical events in a tier list that can be reskinned into plots. But this was So SO good for actually creating real integral plots!

In my book, one of the main plot lines takes heavy inspiration from Caesar vs Pompey and the battle to control the Roman republic, both generals have a POV as they try to secure alliances and outwit the other on the battlefield.

Part of this is similar to my world and plot. This really gave me more ideas. I really want to write something worth reading.

You know.... A Joan de Arc character, a commoner who rises to power through a religious belief, could add a twist

Question: @12:15 - who's the fourth son?

Also, what if Clovis knew way in advance that his death would cause a chaotic power struggle? How about the "Clovis' curse" or the "whatever-name-that creature was" curse? there you go, you wanted consequences for power? every pack made with these creature will cause the curse to be activated upon the death of the signatory. Ofc those gems also extend life by a few decades.

Meet the new boss.
Same as the old boss...

How's that for a realistic & grimdark ending?

The setting of the story I’m working on right now might or might not be loosely based on the splintering of the Carolingian Empire after Louis I. 👀

The tradition for the Merevigian royals to wear their hair long, combined with their strong ties to the Christian church, and upon defeat having their hair cut to symbolise their loss of power echoes the Biblical story of Samson.
