Hey, I'm the OP and I play the dragonborn druid in this campaign. A big thank you to AllThingsDnD for publishing this story, I felt I had to share this one!

When singing the song isn't enough, *become the song.*

New artifact created.

Yirbel's Drum

In possession, provides a constant inspiration spell and +2 on all saving throws for the whole party.

When played by a bard and faced by insurmountable odds (at the discretion of the DM), the drum summons an avenging spirit (NPC controlled by the DM) to stand and fight along side the party (Max of 5 rounds). If the avenging spirit's time is maxed out and forced to quit the fight, it explodes with a wave of healing that washes over the party. All party members receive 2d10 HP/ character level, and return to the fray.

I'm so used to rpg horror stories so to see these damn good stories is very refreshing.

If I was in that party, I would've gone back to that library and make that Arcanaloth pay

Playing curse of Strahd.

"It's a fun, relaxed game."

Fun maybe. Relaxed?

This definitely seems like a case where you would take it up with a god: stealing souls from faithful believers like this is the kind of thing you ask the Cleric to call to their god for, and most of them would bring down the hammer HARD on any demon so brazenly treading on a god's domain.

Hi guys. I'm the one honored to be the DM for this table. This is a heavily modified CoS campaign and the group has been doing a fantastic job of chipping away at Strahd's allies and becoming powerful enough to one day face of against He Who is Ancient and the Land. Barovia is a land of zero sums and pyrrhic victories and I make absolutely sure the player are not railroaded into making impossible choices so that their victories feel real and earned. Testing their morals and convictions is pretty much par for the course. Thanks for the beautiful narration of this tragic but memorable moment. I consider myself a vessel for their story and I'll make sure that this is not the last epic moment this rag-tag band of misfits will have to brave.

I wouldn't have just immortalized that Bard in song, I would become a Bard if I already wasn't, and sing that song to every town I came across, so we could all enjoy her memory together

...and much later in the campaign one of the players gives the middle finger to that demon by using a Wish to reform her soul and put it in a happy afterlife, moved by the song that is still sung.

That was beautiful. I identify more w/ the bard than the party, but I think people of most philosophies can see the beauty in this. Bravo all!

A unselfish sacrifice, a deed that would require a strong will.

She died with a cause. Toast to both the Player and the OP

Nice to see so many people who like to watch DnD

Omg that was so touching such a beautiful way to be sacrificed 😥

Would you have sacrificed yourself to save the remaining 600 innocent souls? Either way, that was some incredible roleplaying and commitment. Comment your reactions and suggestions in the comment section below.

Oof. Little awkward to find out you just unintentionally destroyed 200 innocent souls. :/

That is a really sad, but heroic story. That’s also one evil DM.

This is why I love d&d the good role playing can get you to cry, laugh, and tell as if it was real and happening in front if you

Only one year into DMing and I'm in awe on how one can get that deep into the emotions with the players. Perhaps one day I'll be able to reach that point.
