Edgy PC: “I hide in the corner.”
DM: “The room is round; there are no corners.”
PC: * head explodes

So, some anti-social PCs were anti-social and then complained about anti-social behaviour... great.

I like to call people like this pizza cutters. All edge, no point.

"Goth Aasimar was so frustrated because everyone at the bar was so nice to her and it wasn't fun to scam them". YES, that's the REAL POWER MY CHILD, KILL THEM WITH KINDNESS. If they kill someone, show the mourning of their family and friends, the void they created in the community. If they are assholes, put a little girl in their path telling them that she likes their hair and if they would help her do hers like them. And don't make that girl and orphan, make her the sister/daughter/whatever of the NPC you wanted to give them a job. That's how you kill murderhobos, change edgelords and make a group care about the world.

Edgelord worst nightmare... All the corners of the room are already taken by some other brooders!

To mitigate edgelording I require my players to limit their backstories to one tragedy, as a former edgelord it does help curb that sort of mindset a little.

A game with a roomful of self-important characters trying to out-edge eachother? Sounds like parody material. I'd read that book.

Edgy and Mary Sue? *Are you talking about Ebony Dark'Ness Dementia Raven Way?*

My players tried that. I said, “This is an open world game, so do what you want. If you want to sit and do nothing, that’s exactly what will happen. No adventuring means no adventures happen.”

Party I’m in: full of the edgy backstories
Me: My Goliath Bard left his home as he didn’t want to rule as the prince of all goliaths and wants to explore the world and bring happiness onto others through his songs.

Goliath encounters party: *challenge accepted*

It reminds me of the time, I made a Happy go lucky person in a party of Edgelords...

its funny how much of a special snowflake I became, simply because i didn't have a "DARK FOREBODING PAST!"

The reason for edgy backstories is sound, it goes thus:

A child cannot venture forth into the world, they must live with their parents first, for several years.

If the parents are dead, or absent, the child can go on an adventure!

Similarly, anybody with a spouse or kids can't be going on adventures, they have other things to do, responsibilities to fulfill.

Giving families the axe is a simple way to avoid justifying somebody leaving cozy family life behind to walk _towards_ mortal danger.

New character idea:
Old sorcerer who finds out he has magical powers. He then believes that with these new awakened powers he's an edgelord, but he's too old and sweet to be any good at it.

My mist memorable moment in D&D happened today in our home-brew campaign, we are doing the typical depose a tyrannical king who had hired us to stop the rebellion but ended up joining it (My fault) shtick. However as the session for the day was coming to a close while we were in the middle of a fight with the bbegs right hand man our Barbarian tank decided it would be a good idea to straight up kick the Dwarven War General right in The gonads (again, my fault). He rolled a nat 20 with a 6 damage (including modifier), this sent the dwarve flying into the ceiling and straight into his orb of floating fire killing him instantly, we spent the last minutes of the session laughing our asses off at this amount of ridiculousness

Ah edgy characters, the ones that I can never pull off no matter how hard I try. (I try but within a session I end up playing them as the comic relief)

What is okay: Making a Self Insert Character in DnD! Making a loner character that learns to be more open! Making a edgey character to then develop them!
What isn’t okay: making the plot solely about you and your significant other, making everyone uncomfortable, being upset that it’s not about you, god forbid
