Tutorial: Opening Seagate External Hard Drive

In this tutorial we are showing you guys how to open the portable external hard drive by Seagate. We purchase these to open and use the drive inside as the external drives frequently go on sale for much less than just buying the drive itself. If you open the drive you void the warranty, so be aware of the risk involved. Another reason to open these drives is if the drive inside fails and you would like to replace the drive inside with a spare you have laying around.

Seagate just did a warranty replacement for me. Zero hassle just sent them the old one and they sent me a replacement. Did it all online, just filled out the form and sent it in. I would highly recommend not opening these until after the warranty expires unless like you said, you planned to take it out anyway.

i have a 5tb external drive that i'd rather have inside my mini pc so my backup program doesnt wait for the drive to be plugged in 2 times out of 3. doing backups of my main drive with my batch file is now a no brainer + my desk stays clear. thank you!

I was excited about this but I have the thinner SSD and it is making noise and won't read for more than 8 months. I am keeping it hoping to learn how to open it and fix it so I don't lose my files. I hope I have an electronic board near the end like your because I think it is something simple like that causing the issue. No one seems to address my issue however, oh well.

my external drive also started beeping, but it i was not able to use it for a year more or less. it was detected at my dad's laptop but my desktop cannot detect it. then later after trying different usb port the power indicator is not lighting anymore
