Pastors are a mixed bag but I can't imagine a librarian or a historical-society volunteer *ever* being anything but pleased to see someone come in saying "I'm trying to see if I can still follow the self-guided tour in this book from 1937".

In 2020, my brother recreated a trip from Kansas to California that my great-grandparents took in 1920, following what my great-grandfather had written in his journal. My brother was amazed at how many roads and landmarks were still visible. He even found the same house in California that my great-grandparents visited.

The American Guide Series is fascinating in of itself. It was an initiative of FDR's New Deal, that not only kept carpenters, masons, builders, and utilities workers busy/employed through the Great Depression, but also writers and artists. Not every city/state received one, but it's a rare treat to read through one, as those researchers and writers put a TON of passion into them on account that they weren't focused on anything else but doing their best to stay employed during one of the country's hardest economic times.
