I didn't think I would like the lane keeping assistance on the model Y I now having tried it and given up on the MG4 but having used it on the model Y over the last 3 weeks I can honestly say I wouldn't drive another car long distance without it, it's just amazing how much it can de-stress your drive

Like you Dave I have found myself using the basic Tesla Autopilot as much as I can and it has made long trips an absolute breeze. Biggest danger to point out of adaptive cruuise control is that if you follow a car to a stop at a roundabout, if you haven't cancelled it, then the Tesla will go ahead.
All of the technology is a great thing to have but it is very good to understand it's strengths and weaknesses, to keep you safe.

I use my adaptive cruse control a lot in town on my e2008, keeps me to the speed limit especially 20mph!

Just ordered a Peugeot e3008 that has adaptive cruise control but no steering assist. Looking forward to it

Hi Dave, I'm looking at buying a 2016 model S with autopilot 1, can you please tell me which AP version you have, and did yours get the MCU2 upgrade?

Imagine a 9 year old car that is smarter than a 2024 car! And people still don't get that Tesla are ahead of the competition!

Great to see so much innovation in cars. For us, we do use CC a lot, but only when on the highways.
But 95% of our driving is small country roads. So much of those features will never be used by us.

Just getting yet another free over the air update on our 2 year old model YLR ! nice to get a 'new' car every few weeks !!!!. Its also got auto pilot which is great for changing lanes on the motorways, it presents a 'lozenge' in the vacant lane then all I have to do is indicate and the car moves over, nice and safe.

Our Stellantis group 'Lane Keep Assist' will try to vigorously force you into the opposite carriageway in the narrow country roads that often have white lines down the side in darkest Surrey. This can be quite scary if you have forgotten to turn it off.

I have a Tesla model 3 . I stopped using the autopilot because I found the ghost braking too unnerving There was one spot on a local dual carriageway where it braked hard every time I drove past it. I could see absolutely no reason for the braking and thought "what if another vehicle was close behind me, would they be able to react in time?". Too scary for me.

Impressed by the real time reboot. But you should ditch your phone. My iPhone hasn’t needed a reboot between upgrades. PS Adaptive cruise control that is based on radar cannot distinguish between a stationary vehicle and other stationary objects like bridges. If you crest a hill and a stationary vehicle comes into view in your lane then radar based adaptive cruise control will not slow down! Also, you should keep you hands on the wheel in case lane keeping switches off. You’ll be aware of this through steering feel should you miss warning lights ( or if, like Toyota, there is no warning light).

Interesting video Dave. I drive a non Tesla and use many of the features you describe. One feature you don’t talk about is speed limiter. I use speed limiter as much as smart cruise control if not more. I don’t have to keep an eye on the speed of my car, if the car in front of me drives over the limit my car will stay in the parameters. The car tells me when the limit changes. As I lift my foot off the accelerator pedal the car slows through regen. If I need to accelerate quickly to avoid something you just put your foot to the floor to override the limiter, though I can’t remember ever needing do this.
I have heard Tesla don’t have this feature, is this still the case?

Tell you what video I'd like to see: It's one that takes us through the process of what you have to do when you buy a used Tesla. As a non-Tesla owner (but I hope to be soon) I know that you have to have a Tesla account with a payment method attached but can you take us through logging in to the car and associating it with the app and changing the ownership etc?

My basic autosteer/cruise control on Model Y enables effortless distance cruising, wouldn’t want to drive anything else.

Dave if you still have your old connections please pass on our sympathies and condolences to the family and colleagues of the brave RAF helicopter pilot who recently died in the accident in the Channel .Many thanks.🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

I own a 2021 Model 3 which has ‘Autopilot’. I live in France. Autopilot is worse than a neurotic learner. So I have to disable Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping and Auto Emergency Braking before EVERY drive otherwise the car steers and brakes for no reason which makes it less safe than when I drive it.

Mr “Just get a Tesla” has informed us that EU or UK legislation specifies a limit on auto-steer systems. Auto-steer on motorways is fine but you may hit this limit on twisty roads. He claims that Teslas slow down when auto-steer approaches this limit. I’d like a second opinion on that!
