Advances in technology are changing the way we understand brain activity and diagnosing potentially deadly mental health disorders. Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S., according to the CDC. As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Nikki Battiste shows us how researchers are using brain scans to spot harmful thoughts.

Delivered by Norah O’Donnell, Gayle King, and John Dickerson, "CBS This Morning" offers a thoughtful, substantive and insightful source of news and information to a daily audience of 3 million viewers. They'd have a field day with my brain.

I don't want verbal diagnosis through conversation with therapist people easily lie or influenced by the other. This will identify your illness as it is.

Reading minds, that's a real nightmare. Every day the world is becoming closer to a dystopia.

Wonder if they took into consideration the sub groups who may have already experienced a Loved one or person they knew having had committed. A person might be more inclined to think about committing suicide, or just the topic, due to a suicide that already occurred. But there definitely might be some people out there who are not suicidal but have experienced a suicide from someone they knew whether close to them or not. And we wouldn't want to misinterpret the person thinking of their loved ones or acquaintances suicide into thinking it was truly about oneself. Even self- guilt can come from a person they know comitting suicide, and that could perhaps set off the self awareness neuron center as well as this other neuron center that is said to be related to suicide. But good study! It's wonderful to put these relations of neuron activity together to interpret them!

I am curious of what if brain waves interpreted as image. And as a person who has an experience in Tile Molester (you can open anything as image, it's a tool to rip game sprites), I wonder if the brain waves has something similar to computer files if it interpreted as image. And because brain is literally a computer, then the vision part and the imaginary part could be seen using image interpretation

So what improvements in treatment have resulted from this research, if any?

Im really intreste if they tested it on poeple with genetic depression. But as well as people that don't know that they have genetic depression (like they don't know they have it at all) and although this seems morally wrong and it would take a lot of chance to find poeple with genetic depression that don't know of it, I wonder that when they are tested they will also get a sense of confusion. And then, in a sense, its almost like there is 2 people there. One that is depressed and one that is finding out that it is depressed. Also for people with genetic depression (that know of it), is it different for them? Or maybe it's untracable becuase it's just the genetic startard. I don't really know this is just some theorys and thoughts. Please tell me waht you think!

I would love for people to see what I was thinking when I was gagging or throwing up in school 84 because I used to get in trouble for that and if they worked out my brain I wouldn’t have gotten in trouble for that and I talk about it in front of people that I know will not accuse me of doing it anyway

Amazing if scary!! To be able to read thoughts is both alarming and could potentially save lives. Useful too in pharmacological prescribing, what works, tailor/made treatments. 😅

This is really gr8!! But i have an issue with it... they can see i have this problem, but what can they do about it? I have bipolar disorder with a lot more MDD!!! I have been suicidal for years I've attempted suicide many times... I'm drug resistant to the depression. Through this we know i have this problem, but there's not tht much treatment for it. So i will leave the psych ward with this problem still with me...

But ketamine treatment for depression has really helped a lot!!

This tells you something the patient could literally just tell you. More effective treatment? How? How does knowing someone is suicidal help develop treatment? You already have millions of people who will admit it to your face so this doesn't add anything new.
