We have the Polo 6c GTI as an example, and this one is currently having mechatronic issues, it’s been booked in at the time of this video, and let’s see how it goes.

Thanks For Watching

I'll always say this, this car is overpriced and it comes with lots of problems, someone once argued with me saying its not overpriced , only stupid people would buy this car blindly. Many people cry coz of this car

if you love VW, AUDI stay away from DSG rather get a manual unless if you can't drive a manual or you are loaded with cash for repairs after warranty even buying a motor plan won't fully cover the DSG repairs you still have to cough up a bit more to add with the motor plan DSG repairs no thank you had my fair share of this problem sold the car after the repair .

Great review brother my VW Passat has a flashing spanner on the gears and this week it gave in and won’t engage the gears … busy waiting for a diagnostic guy to come out it on the computer to see what could be the issue..

Mine is a 2016 model with 101000 km currently. I bought the vehicle last year August with 94000km. Also has a full service history. I own this vehicle for almost a year now and I've had the following issues:

Water pump thermostat housing leak first . Complete water pump was replaced.

Oil cooler leak. Replaced whilst doing the water pump.

Radiator leak a few months back.

Personally i believe if you want to own a second hand gti, you must have a mechanical warranty in place. These cars are also not cheap to maintain.

Major service due in September and the parts alone are 4k.

The only thing i disliked about the polo 6c gti is the hard suspension. I installed a set of eibach prokit springs and the ride and handling improved drastically.

I’ve got a car with this gearbox, I haven’t had any complaints with this box to be honest.

I’ve found that it drives smoother than my DQ250 diesel car (I’ve also driven a DQ250 petrol a brand new Q3) and I’ve found my DSG7 to have better up and down shifts as well as faster changes.
My honest opinion is that these transmissions fail 90% of the time due to human error and lack of knowledge or care for that fact…
people can’t blame the transmission when they using their gas pedal to keep the car stationary especially on uphills then cry about needing new clutches and mech unit because it’s toasted itself on a car with less than 20k km.

These gearboxs have dry clutches to reduce the weight and resistance to allow for better smoother and faster operation of a auto transmission on a lower powered platform that’s the only reason it’s a dry clutch it’s also not a first of its kind dry clutches are used in many shapes and forms and applications including high performance the biggest issue that causes these to fail is HEAT and stupidity. Dragging your clutch wears it out 100x faster than normal as-well as produces double the amount of heat the gearbox can tolerate not only that but when in traffic in any dual clutch transmission. You must not keep this causes the clutch to slip as-well as to have it constantly flicking between 1-2 you can expect it to have a shorter life if this is your driving style and to also mention the mech unit housed separately these boxes have 3 chambers mech unit gear unit and clutch unit the mech unit used mineral oil and what happens is when this oil begins to overheat it looses its viscosity which is the same effect of replacing hydraulic fluid in a car jack with water. It still functions but won’t be able to lift anything. I’ve found that this gearbox receives more hate than recognition
If people understand how to drive a dual clutch properly they’ll see 100s of thousands of KM problem free if regular maintenance is done aswell.

That’s just my two cents on these boxes and why they tend to fail with people last forever with others.

TVS engineering has kits and tunes for these boxes to make them absolute gems for those who want to keep their car for long and have this gearbox. Go for TVS and install a Stage 2+ TCU tune it fixes all the factory issues with the software that leads to mech failure and improper clutch pressures and more.

Hi Emba,
I have a 2014 vw Polo. I had a error gearbox appear on my screen. Car would not give us gears 1, 3, 5 & 7 (all the odd gears). Diagnostic report gave codes P176C as gear monitoring: 3. Gear no regulation Sporadic fault.
I had 2 seperate diagnostics done by different mechanics. Went to VW and they said it had nothing to do with the Mechatronics unit but rather that I need to replace my clutch and flywheel.
My question is why does the error reset if I switch off car and restart engine and then all gears are available again and then it would sometimes do it again and sometimes not.
The mechanics who did the diagnostics do not believe that replacing the clutch and flywheel will resolve the issue as it seems to be an electronic issue rather than a mechanical (Clutch) one.

Guys if your Audi/vw have a mechatronic failure don't drive it otherwise you'll cause unnecessary damage inside the gearbox, my 2015 Audi A3 had this problem last year (224000km) and If I didn't drive it the mechatronic was the only thing that was supposed to be replaced but because I didn't leave it the mechatronic, flywheel and clutch plates got ruined which added to the cost so don't drive it just tow it to the dealership

I replaced the mechatronics twice on my polo 1.4 gti (2014) second time after fixing I Sold it very fast & never regret it I actually done myself a big favour

Can I also ask for your opinion here;

Mina I'm really stuck between older gen polo gti around 2020 model, brand new polo life dsg with more features, a demo polo r line with very few or no features at all or a one year old R line with many features. My budget is around R400k and I have around R100k deposit. But I'm planning to just wait until December just to see if anything changes in the automotive industry especially for used cars and to try and accumulate as much deposit as I can. What would be your suggestion?

This a very nice but issue it suffers are very scarry for my liking. Only if it had a normal torque converter auto. Can anyone recommend aftermarket warranties that over the best cover for engine and gearbox failures? As this is a must when buying today's VW cars that most of us like.

This gti and the 7 are my dream cars. After doing research and watching your videos I think the dream its over. I don't think it'll be financially healthy for me to just take out 45 grand to just fix a car part. Now ways. Even if i have enough money I'll never buy a gti. Thanks for the information man much appreciated 🙏

Does tuning increase or decrease the mechatronic failure chances…….I have a DQ200 with stage 2 tuned TCU

I thought manual clutches we cheap until I needed to replace the TDI. Its about R21000 including the expensive dual mass flywheel and a must to do with clutch, this is parts only cost from Dealerships. Maybe can be around R10000 at the likes of GW.
Ai cars nowadays are expensive to maintain and repair. No wonder some people don't keep these any longer than the warranty period.

How old is this car and what is the mileage? And those costs are they from VW or someone who specialises in DSG boxes?

Your explanation is well articulated. My question is, do you do the repairs of these mechatronics? I see that your car is registered in Limpopo. So am I. I have a gearbox problem, I thought you could help.

Nice car to drive but if you buying one get maintenance plan, i dive the pre face lift AW polo gti and i have had to replace the water pump, intake manifold and the gearbox. Its not cheap, extend or get aftermarket warranty

Yesterday my mom's Volkswagen TSI's reverse gear doesn't work and driving to the mechanic was harsh and limping due to the rough gear changes.
The error code that popped up was;
P174F00 - Valve 4 in Sub - Transmission 2 Electrical Fault.

No idea what that means but mechanic said it could be possible that it is the Mechatronic unit failing.
