Having had a poutine in old Quebec city I can say it would be pretty hard to top it anywhere else, you can only make a dish so good before you reach a ceiling and that poutine was legendary.

Gravy is a northern UK dish so hard to find in London. Plus what you got was pub food so the cheesy chips are not classic style and they just gave you the gravy as a condiment.
