IMPORTANT CORRECTION:

Kobo e-readers with handwriting capabilities can use *any* stylus that implements the Microsoft Pen Protocol.

For instance, I use a Rennaiser 520c for my Sage and it works exactly as a Kobo Stylus would but with better battery life.

Great review! Another point to note for those in the UK is the integration of Libby via Overdrive, so you can access a library and borrow books and audio books for free while supporting local libraries!

Honestly I've wanted a colour e-reader to exist since the first Kindle - and from one of the bigger e-reader brands too. I understand that the technology isn't perfect, and will probably be perfected in later releases, but I still think I'm going to enjoy the heck out of this thing. Thank you for such a thorough and honest review.

Unfortunately l returned my Kobo Libra Colour after one day because reading outside in sunshine, the screen appears unacceptably dim even when the built in frontlight is set to 100%, which is a dealbreaker for me. Inside the house, the screen brightness can be made acceptable by use of the frontlight but outside it cannot, a feature b&w ereaders are exceptionally good at. I use my ereader for just for reading books and have no use for the annotating and writing features. So I'm going to wait until if/when the colour eink technology improves further.

I really looked into it to replace/upgrade from my 7 year old kindle Oasis with USB type C and color. I fell in love with page turning buttons and I can't understand why Amazon ditched the concept since 2019. I think kobo might be the best software alternative to the kindle universe, but ended with the new Pocketbook Era Color instead. I like flat touch/eink displays and don't wanted to downgrade to a frame, that collects sand outdoors and dust quiete easily like the libra 2 and my first kindle paperwhite. I think a direct comparison between the Oasis would be interesting for many people.

Love my kobo libra h20 had it for 3 years I have the nook and kindle oasis and I pick up my kobo all the time I’m in the process of receiving the kobo libra for more book storage and to listen to audiobooks! Kobo is just amazing!

I happened upon this video by accident but I’m glad I did. I own a Kindle Paperwhite but have been interested in a color version. I think this was a great review. Everything was broken down really well and explained in detail. I think I’ve found a new channel to follow. Keep up the good work.

I think Kindle will be releasing one with page turn buttons as well since the Oasis hasnt been refreshed since 2018 and there appears to be limited or no stock on the website. Fingers crossed lol. 😅

Any chance to see a video about the writing experience with close up clips and how fast the display keeps up with the pen?

We ordered this e-reader as an upgrade from my old Kobo Aura H2O, which was just starting to show it's age for our specific usecase of... digital D&D books :p we have them as PDF's (I think we got them from a humblebundle or something, not sure) and the Aura is just very slow with those. That and because it's only grayscale e-ink, it just doesn't look that great with D&D materials. We also use it for manga and graphic novels and such, so it should be really nice.

And most books are perfectly fine in black and white.
But yeah, kinda nice.. kinda nice. Nice idea that for $20 more you get colors.

I use the Metapen M2 with mine and a third party case. The M2 was like $25 and the case was $14.
