Switching from Kindle Paperwhite Signature to Kobo Libra Colour - Do I Regret It?

I discuss my experience transitioning from the Kindle Paperwhite Signature to the new Kobo Libra Colour.

I am not a tech expert, and this is less of a review and more of a general discussion about my experience switching from Kindle to Kobo. I also talk about some of the concerns I had before making the move. There aren't many technical details about the devices because, as my channel title suggests, I am very much an average reader and just wanted to talk about my day-to-day usage of this new device. I do not have the Kobo Stylus 2, so if you were hoping to get some more details on that, I am sorry to disappoint.

I am new to Booktube and hope to make videos in the future discussing everything from my favorite books to my love of e-readers and everything in between.

Also, if you buy an ebook through Kobo and you see it sold for less at another site, you can request a price match. It has worked for me in the past:)

Thank you for this review! I watched a couple of reviews before this one and each one was tech based. That's important to me for things like a tablet or laptop but I wanted a solid review from a true book lover, avid daily reader, and from someone with long time user experience in the Amazon/Kindle world.
I appreciate that you've thoroughly expressed how devoted you've been to Kindle and how your concerns with switching to Kobo have been mostly unfounded.
I have definitely seen many people express disappointment in the color vibrancy and crispness, as well as the black text crispness when reading. Most have then said they'd be waiting for next generation color readers.
I wanted to hear from a satisfied user, to see what made the experience satisfying despite all I've seen getting stuck at the color quality. I think we have all become used to the screens in cellphones, laptops, tablets, and televisions.
I have this reader arriving today, and a new tablet tomorrow. I knew I could easily use the tablet for books, but I categorically do NOT want a tablet based screen experience for daily reading. I spend a shocking number of hours per day in front of Oled type screens. I wanted a stand alone eReader and an escape from the dopamine fueled, ADHD nightmare fuel that defines my cellphone/tablet usage.
I was beginning to second guess my purchase after listening to all the folks opting out of this reader because they expected a different screen experience.
Your review has revived my excitement, so now I'm stalking my front windows as I watch for the magical courier van to appear.
Im hoping i can figure out how to get my amazon based books switched over, how to get google drive books loaded, and how to link to my library system for remotely checking out library books.

(Note: Amazon has a ton of stylus products that are compatible. Look for MPP stylus's. There is the Renaissance Raphael 520c, and the Metapen Stylus Pen M2 that are far cheaper than the Kobo pens and will work in all the same ways. Many others as well.)

This review was spot on. I have the kobo clara color and I love it with the same caveats as you. One more, I wish we could resize the book covers on the library. They would look better bigger. And that feauture would be amazing. The color is more washed, but it's still beautiful.

I hope you meanwhile found the option to view your notes and highlights; you can swipe up on the screen whilst reading, then press the document icon in the bottom right to view them. Hope this helps somebody :)

I've found setting brightness to 10% is sufficient for night reading.

Got the same butter color cover. Love linking to library Overdrive and Google Drive folder. Also surprised to discover my HP stylus worked with it too.

Saved this video as reference. Interested in alternatives to kindle. Plus the option to put library ebooks on it is a huge draw. Cheers

You can get any microsoft MPP 2.0 Pen and it will work with the Kobo Libra Colour (or Elipsa). I have the first gen Kobo pen but also have the Metapen M1 stylus and also my Microsoft Surface pen which also works. Nice to see someone else with the yellow case. I love it. 😊

Thanks so much for this review! It was helpful for me. I too long to see my eBook covers in color (it feels like the one last thing I still miss about the old physical book days). I currently have a Libra 2 and love it, but it is still a tad large for me to just throw into my purse. I'm probably going to wait until Boox comes out with a color 6" and am on the fence about waiting for the next version of color eink to come out (Kaleido 4) which will likely have better color quality. I won't do Kindle/Amazon anymore (my first ereader was a Keyboard 3 that I still have for emergency use) and am curious to experience Boox vs. Kobo. Anyway, I digress. Again, thanks for the info! It was very helpful to see someone elses experience! Much appreciated!

Amazon are cracking down on books and changing the format to one that cannot be read or formatted to read on other devices.

I am mulling over grabbing this. Have the non-colour Libra, and wondering if it's worth it?
Moved from Kindle years ago. And now I am boycotting Authors that "only" sell on Amazon...which should not even be legal.

thanks for sharing, I don’t know much about Kobo, but this looks pretty good! I will look into further as I’d love to read my library offerings on an e-reader (currently not available on kindle in Australia)

The muted colors are the reason I’m going to hold off on purchasing this device. I want the colors to pop.

Regarding the color Kobo, do you only see color on the book covers? What about books that have colored pictures - I am thinking of naturalist's field guides, travel books, and books published by DK. Do those appear in color?
