For future reference, put your plants in before the bark. I agree with the other comment about avoiding the membrane if you're going to plant on top, plants need space to root freely

I have a similar set up and I have blackbirds pecking at the bark and chucking it onto the grass :( I think I will replace it with gravel soon

I've just completed this with grey composite decking board (with wood grain marking) on edge with steel stakes concealed behind under the gravel. The previous timber set-up lasted 8 years. Cost a lot more than timber but should last decades 👃.
