NASA Just Discovered A Planet Even Better for Life Than Earth

To make the search for life beyond our planet more systematic and focused, scientists have developed a metric known as the Earth Similarity Index, which measures the similarity of a planet or moon to Earth based on various parameters such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, and habitability. It ranges from 0.0 to 1, with 0.8 and 1 indicating that a planet is similar to Earth in every aspect.

In recent years, advances in technology allowed us to uncover a multitude of exoplanets and moons with striking similarities to Earth.

One of them was found in 2019 and called Teegarden B. This is a super Earth [Mass: 1.05 Earths] orbiting an M-type star every 4.9 days at a distance of 0.0252 AU.

The Teegarden’s Star is one of the closest stars to our solar system located about 12.4 light-years away from us. And although the red dwarf is 10 times less massive than our sun, and has a temperature of just about 2,700°C [5,000°F], it can still provide enough heat for its two planets [Teegarden b Teegarden c].

The two exoplanets are similar to the inner planets in our solar system and are only slightly more massive than Earth. Both of them are situated in the habitable zone where liquid water can exist, but Teegarden b seems much more promising, and here’s why.

born too late to discover the world and too early to explore the universe...hopefully our future generations can fulfill that dream for us..life always finds a way.

I wish I was born 200 years in the future when we could reach these new worlds

Its crazy that as humans with organs built for our environment, we may not even be able to perceive some forms of life . I mean we cant even hear or see the entire spectrum of wavelengths that some species on earth can...

How hard searching for another livable planet shows that how precious our mother earth is.... every country should be serious on global warming, save life here, save humanity here, and save our precious planet earth.

We are at the point in history where technology really came in to existence. What an incredible point in time we are experiencing. We are at the inflection point. Cheers to that everybody :) we are all here together

The problem with these red dwarf systems is that in order for a planet to be in the habitable zone it must be very close to the star, and that equals tidal locking, and that means the actual habitable region of these is a ring region, and there are a variety of other issues with a sun that never "moves" and a planet with two vastly different halves. That's not to mention how unstable (though extremely long-lived) red dwarfs appear to be.

No discussion of this is complete without acknowledging that any "humans" who ever settle an extrasolar planet or moon are likely to be heavily genetically engineered, if not dispensing with biological bodies altogether.

If we as a planet came together and spent more money on education and technology to be useful instead of killing each other we would probably be steps closer to being more advanced.

If only we didn't wage useless wars or better yet, if only we all united under one banner, imaging the possibilities then...

I bet we’re not alone, billions of stars exist and they all have their planets

Earth is unique in many many different ways to support the life and bio ecosystem... not just the liquid water or present in the habitable zone. We probably still don’t know the myriad ways earth is supporting life. Finding another planet with an intelligent life form is as elusive as the abundance of life on earth!

Just imagine there is a planet out there with dinosaurs on it still as well as many other things we have not seen yet 👽

The most important thing is to travel faster, otherwise you can forget about a new planet.

I said it before and I wrote it in my book, , we are not Alone.🌍🌍

Space is so massive we humans are like a cells compared to how big space really is

Imagine being a sentient species similar to humans on a tidally locked super earth size planet. I wonder what society would chose as a way to mark the passage of time without the rotation of a planet... at least, before technology existed to allow them to see and track their planets rotation around it's star.

i wish we could see life in other planets too. That will sadly never happen in my lifetime.

There are many planets out there that can support life. Basically millions of planets beyond the universe can support life.

I think its impossible for us to be alone especially taking into consideration how minute we are in relation to the known universe.

We have never been alone, just open your eyes and you'll see. They are among us
