When you buy your first network attached storage device, it can be an incredibly daunting task. If you have a less technical background, or heard about NAS servers from Synology or QNAP, but are still not quite certain what a NAS is or what to look for in choosing the right device, it can be very intimidating. Luckily the learning curve is not as high as you think and both Synology and QNAP have really streamlined their NAS range, along with improvements in accessibility and user-interface over the years.

Gr8 video. My 2 objections against QuMagie 1) it is unable to index HEIC images 2) when browsing indexed photos U R not able to display original size-quality of the photos. It is always downscaled version. So I am still waiting for the app update

This is really a nice way to compare those two pieces of software. Thank you a lot!

How on earth did you zoom in and out on the picture? I am trying to do this and tried several different browsers, even QNAP said "not possible" - that's why I stopped using the software.

Moments can now use your Photo Station library without having to put your photos in that particular Moments folder

Hello, i just purchased Ds200j thinking about upgrading to theDS220+ due to the very slow performance on the indexing and generating processing. would I see a significant difference if so?

Is synology going to let us pick our own directories? Thats a deal breaker for me, i want to create my own file infrastructure.

Folder view is available in recent versions of Moments.

I feel that the recognition routines are so similar, both Synology and QNAP probably didn't develop this on their own but rather bought it from a 3rd party. Possibly even the same one. I also did a test like this with my own data on a Synology DS918+ and a QNAP TS-453A and results were very similar, even with a much larger data collection.

Not too sure it's pronounced "maggie" more likely something like "ma-gee". Magie, is French for "Magic" which is derived from Latin and Greek... or I could be completely wrong ;) Good comparison by the way.

So funny that you say QNAP had more picture 'Subjects' (as a positive thing) when half the extra subjects are the QNAP incorrectly identifying your CAT as 'Animal' and 'Furniture'. And failing to identify people making faces and just lumping them into the subect 'Person', or a lady working at a table and the QNAP saying it's 'Clothing'. That is not the QNAP providing a benefit of 4 more unique subjects, that is an example of QNAP messing up and misidentifying the photos and making cataloging it more difficult.
