Calculating Basal Metabolic Rate

Your BMR is the number of calories required to keep your body functioning, without any exercise or activity!

This has significant implications to fat loss, as most diets given by a lot of people restrict to 1200 calories or less. Given your body type, you may technically be wasting away and not in a good way!

I use the Harris-Benedict formula for calculating BMR, which is different for males and females:

Men - BMR = (10 x weight in kg) + (6.25 x height in cm) - (5 x age) + 5
Women - BMR = (10 x weight in kg) + (6.25 x height in cm) - (5 x age) - 161

Needless to say, my wife isn’t overly happy that I can get away with eating a bit more than her.

This month I’ll be sharing some more nutrition information. Next week, I’ll be sharing how to calculate your total daily energy expenditure. Stay tuned for more info!

I thought cals in/out really doesn't matter. As long as the person is eating healthy fats and protein. Who said that calories matter?
