I was born and raised in NYC (I still reside here) Excellent Tips, but I would never view NY as Safe or Safer in the last few years. I live in Jamaica Queens (high crime rate area) and I work in Manhattan right across the street from from Madison Square Garden. Alot of crime has been happening both in and out of the train station in that area, during rush hour and earlier. It's just way too many homeless and substance users on the street, and sometimes police are not everywhere. I leave work at 10 pm, and when the cops are not around, all the tricky tricky people are out and about. I love the nights I leave work, and I see police and all of the tricky people are no where to be found. Plus, as an ESL Teacher, my students don't speak English, and I often worry about them being targeted due to the language barrier. ⚘️

I am from NYC from one of the most dangerous areas. NYC is safe now but wasn’t when I grew up. Biggest tip, LOOK IN FRONT OF YOU FOR 20 FEET or more. The time to avoid danger is before you are in it. Also be aware if someone walks behind you or next to you too long. That’s how they size you up to rob you. Keep safe.

Thank you for this! I’m highly considering a new York trip to try to network for my arts. I’m from Georgia and it would be quite the culture shock for me, so all the advice is great!

Also people beg for money in the tourist train stations like Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Herald Square, etc.

Thank for this amazing video. ❤ I'm thinking to go to NYC alone, always wanted to go there but no one wants to come with me as there always busy. Would I be ok for me to go on my own?

When I visited NYC we did get into an unmarked black suv at the airport to get to our airbnb. It was super clean and they offered free Fiji water and took us where we wanted for cheap lol it worked but I wouldn’t do that again if I were alone. I was with family that time

I this generation of young people it’s not the city it’s the politicians that run it like my hometown of Chicago it’s beautiful especially the downtown area just like California is beautiful but the politicians are the ones not doing their job it’s about power not the people and that’s just on the real

The tip about the weapons got me super scared... Do I really have to get a weapon? O_o... I'm starting to rethink if I actually want to visit NYC by myself.

Thanks for all the tips, I’m from LA so I’m familiar with the feel of being around crime. And it sucks because you have to constantly watch your back. Anyway, I’m coming to visit in November where do you recommend a safe area to stay at and hotel?
