CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Matthew (Donald Sutherland) and Elizabeth (Brooke Adams) are nearly caught when Elizabeth screams at the sight of the dog-man hybrid.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
This remake of the 1956 horror classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers moves the action from small-town USA to 1970s San Francisco and replaces at least part of the original's psychological horror with special effects. Spores rain forth, unseen, from outer space, and soon strange flowers begin popping up all over the city. After bringing one of these hybrid specimens home with her one night, biologist Elizabeth Driscoll (Brooke Adams) notices that her live-in boyfriend, Geoffrey (Art Hindle), doesn't seem like himself; he's cold and distant and somehow just not quite there. When she turns to her friend Matthew Bennell (Donald Sutherland), a colleague at the Department of Public Health, he convinces her to see his friend Dr. Kibner (Leonard Nimoy), a pop psychologist who argues that the problem is all in Elizabeth's head. Soon, though, Matthew and Elizabeth begin to notice that people all over the city are changing subtly and inexplicably. When their friend Jack Bellicec (Jeff Goldblum) and his wife Nancy (Veronica Cartwright) find a lifeless, half-formed doppelganger covered with plant fibers in the mud baths they own and operate, the group of friends finally begins to understand that a sinister transformation is sweeping their city. Kevin McCarthy and Don Siegel, respectively the star and director of the original film, have small roles in the new version, as does an unbilled Robert Duvall.

The dog putting its tongue through the mask during the take is one of those one-in-a-million stroke of luck movie moments that the crew couldn't possibly have anticipated. I bet the director was doing backflips when he saw that in the editing room.

For those who don't know there was a scene earlier where an old man played a bango with his dog. Mathew kicked and damaged a pod that was near them so that the pod malfunctioned and produced a hybrid creature instead of a copy of the man.

I love how he uppercuts the old lady and spins right back into walking.

This manages to be both one of the most terrifying and hilarious scenes at the same time. 😂

I wish they made more alien movies that weren't just beastly creatures coming and blowing us up. Movies like this make it feel more ominous, mysterious, and eerie.

I remember I saw this on TV as a child probably in '79 or '80, and afterwords I wasn't sure if I had really seen it or just imagined it being in the movie, it was so utterly bizarre.

that man- faced dog was one scene that utterly and totally freaked me as a kid as it was so unexpected and out of this world, Ive never forgotten it ;the whole film is uncomfortable and gives a uneasy feeling-great casting too, never forgot Leonard Nimoy, he hardly came in other movies apart from Star Trek .

I've worked in San Francisco so many times. There are plenty of dogs with human faces running around in the streets. This is nothing new.

Ahh.... So that's where the producers of "Cats: 2019" got their character design ideas from....

I watched this film in the theater when I was a kid and this is a scene that definitely stuck out. I still remember the reaction from the audience. People was gasping.

I lost it at the dog and banjo. Dog was all like "hey dude."

Not gonna lie, between the banjo and the punch I laughed really hard with this

Always a plus when an old lady gets punched right in the face.

I only just watched this movie for the first time yesterday, always hearing about the scream scene at the end of the movie since I was a little kid. But this, I never knew about. Even as a 30-something adult seeing this for the first time...that downright disturbed the crap out of me.

Always wondered what would happen if you screeched at a pod person. What would they do? Their reaction would be priceless lmfao

I like how Nancy seems used to seeing that dog/human. She’s been walking among the aliens for so long she was probably thinking, “oh yeah, forgot about that”
