CLIP DESCRIPTION:
As Elizabeth (Brooke Adams) tries to convince her superiors to study the mysterious flower, Matthew (Donald Sutherland) is given the runaround by the authorities in his attempt to warn the public of a hidden menace.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
This remake of the 1956 horror classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers moves the action from small-town USA to 1970s San Francisco and replaces at least part of the original's psychological horror with special effects. Spores rain forth, unseen, from outer space, and soon strange flowers begin popping up all over the city. After bringing one of these hybrid specimens home with her one night, biologist Elizabeth Driscoll (Brooke Adams) notices that her live-in boyfriend, Geoffrey (Art Hindle), doesn't seem like himself; he's cold and distant and somehow just not quite there. When she turns to her friend Matthew Bennell (Donald Sutherland), a colleague at the Department of Public Health, he convinces her to see his friend Dr. Kibner (Leonard Nimoy), a pop psychologist who argues that the problem is all in Elizabeth's head. Soon, though, Matthew and Elizabeth begin to notice that people all over the city are changing subtly and inexplicably. When their friend Jack Bellicec (Jeff Goldblum) and his wife Nancy (Veronica Cartwright) find a lifeless, half-formed doppelganger covered with plant fibers in the mud baths they own and operate, the group of friends finally begins to understand that a sinister transformation is sweeping their city. Kevin McCarthy and Don Siegel, respectively the star and director of the original film, have small roles in the new version, as does an unbilled Robert Duvall.

CREDITS:

The line "people are returning to normal" is the scariest part about this scene to me I guess because it means almost everyone has changed

The subtle chaos that starts around 1:30 is so well done. From the filming angles to all the voiceovers in the background, it seems like everything is going haywire. Movies nowadays don't ever achieve this.

Excellent movie.  And if you rewatch it a few times you can tell that the movie essentially starts in the middle of the story, after the aliens have already heavily infiltrated society.  "Waking up" in the movie makes the characters suddenly notice something that has been in plain sight the entire time.

The original is a classic but this is even better.

Like trying to call Comcast after they raised the price of the internet without telling you.

The director of the movie, Philip Kaufman, is seen in this clip knocking on the door of the phone booth Matthew is using.

The fact that none of them wanted to let him to get a word in; shows that they were becoming one of them.

This film really creates paranoia in an audience

At the BEGINNING of the movie, most of San Francisco is already turned over. Elizabeth and Matthew being totally out to lunch on what was going on despite Elizabeth working in a science field and Matthew in a societal one is indicative of how unobservant and self-absorbed they were in their personal lives despite working as professionals. We are no better.

This guy is clearly infected by this point as is most of the city which is so scary as you become increasingly outnumbered

Movies like this makes anything scary. I felt sorry for the Asian guy in the beginning. But he goes from that's not my wife to much better now that's terrifying!!!

This part always reminds me of my late grandma. When I used to visit her, we would always go shopping in downtown SF.

1:35 I used to work in that building 10yrs ago. The building used to be AT&T store in San Francisco, but closed down after 2020. So did the famous Gap building on the right, next to him that's not in the shot. Also heard the Westfield mall across the street is closing down... sad. Both buildings, the architecture, is beautiful and the inside the ceiling too

I have a question. Were the authorities that Matthew was calling supposed to have been pod people or is it ambiguous? Please someone let me know. Thanks.

Elizabeth and Matthew put up a fight to stop the pod people. In some other movie, they would have saved the world. Not this one. Don Siegal, Kevin McCarthy and Phillip Kaufman hated such a happy ending idea.

Add everyone looking at IPads and this is pretty much San Fran today.

This remake is more chilling and effective than "The Bland Witch Project" (1999).

Actually, the Chinese guy after the change seemed more likable than the one before the pod transformation.

Do the humans die or do they just transform into the pod people?
