On our first full day in South America, we explored Montevideo, Uruguay. We were quite embarrassed how little Spanish we knew!

Montevideo, Uruguay // 1 YEAR World Trip // DAY 342 // Country #58 // June 8, 2018

Why are our videos SO FAR behind real time?

Short answer: A hard drive crash lost 74 days and 13 countries! We retold these days using Peter’s pictures in our “Lost Episodes.” And NOW we are so excited to edit the remaining 5 months worth of footage :)

After living in Germany for two years I feel the same way you do on language. I'm so much more understanding of the language barrier now. I'm appericative of how much I've learned and grown living in another country. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything. Thanks for also pointing it out to the world. I think more people could benefit from watching that part of your video or visiting/living in another country for a short while.

Thanks for visiting! Two things: 1-Uruguay has FOUR World Championships, 1924, 28, 30, 50, and FIFTEEN South American Championships (yeah, constantly beating our brothers/neighbors Argentina and Brazil). 2- The name Rambla is a Catalan word (Catalunya being the province where Barcelona is located). Rambla in Catalan means "wide avenue". Having been a Spanish colony, the original main settlers were Galicians, Basques and Catalans. In the late 19th century other European immigrants came along, such as Italians, Germans, French, Greeks, Brits, Russians, as a matter of fact, we have descendants from almost every European countries. Shame you could only visit MVD, there is plenty to share in our little piece of paradise! Take care.

Rio de la Plata is an estuary, I am not sure but I think it is the largest in the world.

You forgot to put Uruguay as a separate country in your lists, it is not just “South America”

In Uruguay butter is called "manteca". And outside of raw pasta we never use it with regular food but on top of the bread with coffee or "mate". So it was pretty wierd thst you asked for butter and ketchup.

Wow I couldn't believe when I saw the title... you were in my country! Thank you for showing Uruguay! I know it is crazy how much taxes we have there but it is good that the price they advertise is the final price with taxes included. I am glad you had a good time 🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾

And it is called Rambla, because it was designed by an architect or engineer (don´t remember) from Barcelona.

If I travel to an English country, I should learn a bit English.
If you are travelling into Spanish countries, you should learn some Spanish. It's basic.

Probably still intelligent people?...🤔🙄. Uruguayan living in the US, I was born and rise there, made all my studies there, free by the way, ... the media here are much lees intelligent than Uruguayan media, your intelligent people are the ones who come from somewhere else 🤷🏻‍♂️, ....sorry, do not want to be unfriendly but I feel I must say it. Hope you like our country and most important, the people... it is what I’m missing the most here, the people. If you have the chance, go in Summer time.
