Root is SO GOOD. Such a well thought out system and universe.

Sadly, Root was kind of a punch in the gut for my gaming hopes and dreams. There are limits to me and my group's time and brainpower and Root stretched those to the limits. 😢

I play board games mainly through a board game club. So convincing near strangers to play a game as complex (and, with newer players, as long) as Root is near impossible.

So a game that is similar in style to Root while also being simpler and shorter seems like a perfect fit for me.

There are a slew of great 2 player games out there, Skulk Hollow is a decent enough asymmetric game. Not to mention Star Wars Rebellion and there is a cool CMON Dune game coming. As for Root, the first time I played it I knew I had to get rid of it. I have never had a group that plays the same game again and again. Just too many games and not enough time and Root is sort of a lifestyle game for a group who will keep coming back to a game. If I had that group, Root would be in my collection.
