I was knocked off my feet by Minor Detail. Hearing you talk about it here I think it worked for me better than it did for you. I am wondering if I can contemplate The Book of Jacob. Flights and Drive Your Plow were both so satisfying but I have to admit being put off by the length.

Living in the countryside I felt that Tokarczuk really captured something universal about countryside living. How you have to be a little self-sufficient, how people's relationship to nature is often about getting something out of it (hunting or foraging) and how inward-looking the society can be. But there was also humour in the book, like when they had this mushroom themed party.

Oh I really loved Drive Your Plow.... Thinking of getting into Flights later this year, as I do want to leave a year gap between Tokarczuks. Ha!

It always throws me when books have the same title - Minor Detail was not the one I thought it was going to be! :)

As someone who is currently one third of the way through The Books of Jacob, the other Tokarczuk titles sound much more manageable. (What was I thinking???)

Drive Your Plow Over The Bones of the Dead was a great book on audio. Flights was the same.

Drive Your Plow yesss. One of my fav characters.

Also, I think I hate Fitz covers generally, since it’s just type. But that arrangement in particular is so offensive to me in its aesthetic lol. Yeah yeah the work can’t be judged by the cover but it’s also booooring fitz. Get it together.

Is a coach journey a car or a train?

Yeah Minor Detail was heaaavy. I really “liked” it though. Such a clever second half.

Ohh did not know about Dark Neighbourhood. Interesting. Short stories almost always never work for me… interesting that it’d work well as an audiobook. Maybe I’ll see if I can get ahold of it in that format.

Do you scan the books like super man 👨 how do you read all these books in this speed Bob the Bookerer ? Just curious. I also do book reviews but cannot do reviews in the rate you are doing .

Oh, I started reading Dark Neighbourhood and stopped after the first one because I felt a bit lost and not very invested...
