I loved the ten second silence. I am sat in my boyfriend's flat, in his living room, next to the window. I leaned back in his armchair and took in the view from his fourth floor apartment over central London. I saw trains running past, a bird fly over some houses, some cranes moving in the distance. I became aware of a sound outside, and wondered what it was ---- and that's when the ten seconds stopped, but I was suddenly so intrigued by what was happening outside. Being present in the moment and not being distracted is such a beautiful thing, and I've been trying to do it a lot more frequently in the last few months. And it's incredible what you start seeing or hearing. Yesterday I saw a mother and daughter riding along Bloomsbury on a tandem bicycle. I would not have noticed them if I had walked around with my head buried in my phone. Oh, such beauty in the world.

And ps: yes, brainpickings is great. Glad you've discovered it wheezy.

I always have the most creative and free thoughts when I'm lying in bed, trying to sleep, which sucks, because I can't do anything whith them because everyone wants to sleep. I can do things like writing a song or think about deep stuff on command as soon as I turn my lights off and go to bed.

It's awesome, even though I stay awake for at least 1 more hours. I sometimes find answers to questions I didn't even know I had and it helps a lot to understand our confusing world. Don't ruin it by using your phone in bed, you're really missing something out.

I absolutely agree. I've been talking about this a lot lately, myself.

My favorite story is about Neil Gaiman when he went off twitter last year because he said he just wanted to ride in a cab and be bored and dream up new and interesting ideas about characters. 6 months, the man did it.
