Laundry sanitizers are an incredibly useful and powerful tool to keep in your laundry room. Here is a 4th generation dry cleaner's explanation of what they are and how to use them!

To use liquid sanitizers add the recommended amount to the fabric softener slot of your machine and use the sanitizer cycle. When using OxiClean make sure to put the powder in the drum of your machine before loading your clothing. It's incredibly important to select a cycle that has a rinse cycle of 16 minutes+ or else the product will not work as intended. Identifying the length of a rinse cycle is very difficult so I recommend using the sanitize cycle.

To disinfect WHICH IS DIFFERENT THAN SANITIZING soak your items in water and your sanitizing product for at least 15 minutes. You should wash your items after (a quick cycle will do).

In my opinion you don't need to use a laundry sanitizer all the time. Think of it as power washing or deep cleaning; only use it when you or someone in your family requires it.

Also, all of these sanitizing / disinfecting products have to be proven to do so! At home methods or DIY recipes will not work.

Anytime a claim shows up on a product it needs to be backed up with well documented evidence or the FTC will not be happy. If you want to learn more about product claims let me know and I'll put something together. There are some pretty wild claims that I doubt are true out there.

Happy cleaning :)

Laundry sanitizer has made all the difference for me for socks and underwear. Also like to use it for towels and pillowcases, I have very acne prone skin and I noticed an improvement in my skin!

It’s also fantastic if you forget your laundry in the washer and come back to it stinking of mildew, that gets cleared right up by the sanitizer

Just some notes, sanitizing refers to nearly the complete removal or destruction of pathogens. While detergent doesn’t completely remove pathogens, it does tend to wash away a substantial portion of them. Under most circumstances, a sanitizer is not needed. The chemicals used to sanitize laundry in this products aren’t great for the environment, so factor that in before you use it with every load.
Also, regular oxiclean has sterilization properties without that added chemicals in the sanitize version so if you’re looking for some extra clean and want to avoid overuse of anti microbial, oxiclean regular is a good start

This is a great add in for reusable menstrual products like underwear and fabric pads

Laundry detergent can kill some bacteria, and for most regular washing you don’t need a sanitizer. If someone has been ill or exposed to concerning germs, then it would be good to use a sanitizer. We need to be careful not to over use sanitizing products unnecessarily as this can create resistant germs.

I work in a NICU and I wash all of my scrubs with laundry sanitizer. I also wash them separately from everything else. Idk if it makes a lot of difference but it definitely gives me peace of mind.

I literally just wash my clothes with vinegar so cheap. Couple caps full and boom stains and smells gone, and super soft. Plus also cleans the drains in the machine

Also good idea after purchasing something preowned and throughly cleaning before using for the first time.

I love using laundry sanitizer! It’s kept my gym clothes and socks clean and smell free better than any detergent I’ve used in the past. I have a top load washer which doesn’t start the wash cycle until the lid is closed. So what I do is add my clothes and start the fill cycle with warm or hot water, depending on what I’m washing. I then add the sanitizer and detergent while the drum is filling up and I leave the lid open. I’ll then leave and let the clothes soak for about 15-20 minutes while I do other chores around the house. I then go back and close the lid to start the wash cycle. Works great every time!

I was todays years old when I found out my washer has a fabric softener dispenser. (It’s a 2003 top load roper).

i’m begging y’all: please only use sanitizer if you need it. if you notice a significant difference or have an immunodeficiency that requires a very clean environment, use it, but sanitizing products like this help create superbugs. it should be used sparingly.

I just use hot water and a hot dry cycle. It's rougher on the clothing; but heating the clothing to 140*F does a pretty decent job of killing off any microbial life that exists within or upon the clothing.

Oxiclean Sanitizer smells incredible! They should really make an air freshener with that scent...or a perfume. 😁

Additionally, for best results, dry laundry fully in a hot dryer. Kills off remaining pathogens not eliminated by detergents, sanitizers, boosters, etc.

Can you please make a video on how to get the most out of a washing machine at a laundromat or shared building? Should I clean the washer every now and then?

The Lysol product gets the smell out of my kids helmet. Soak it in a bucket of water with a cap full for 15 minutes then rinse. Doesn’t mess up the padding or glue and doesn’t smell like urine anymore
