This is actually a lot more welcome than I initially gave it credit for. Zero latency interface functionality while recording and not having to fuss around with it is very cool. Saying it's "not free" is also short changing them if legacy Apollo users can get it for free and it's a full functioning version no matter what. I wouldn't want to use it if I wasn't using an Apollo anyway. The appeal is first party functionality.

But what if I do want to save the project in a specific location?

I was told by the UAD mod in live chat, during the Namm UAD Luna demo that Luna would utilise all the DSP in mixing, of both satellites and Apollo's such as X8, X8p, 8pS' etc. Meaning you're not having loads of redundant processing power sitting doing nothing in your hugely expensive Apollo's. From what I gather in this interview, that's not true. Satellites only for mixing and Apollo's only for recording. That's kind of a big deal and it needs confirming officially. I was going to upgrade my Apollo's so I could use their DSP's in mixing, so maybe that would be pointless? It does appear to be a direct question that's very pointedly not being answered properly and unambiguously by UAD.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but bragging that it comes for free for Apollo owners is kind of like bragging that Console has been free for Apollo owners for years. I mean, it's the front end for the Apollo - OF COURSE it's free. Just like Apogee's interface front end is free, or RME Total Mix is free, or Audient's is free, etc. Yes, it's a recorder too which does more than just configure the interface, and all that, but it's tied to the hardware, so the whole "free" thing seems weird I think.

They seem to have taken a lot of functionality from Reaper.

It's amazing he can spend 10 minutes and never once say what it does, lol.
