I go from hitting great drives to hooking it off Earth. I just jumped off the couch and am heading to the range to practice my right arm position. Re the sidearm motion and full release coming toward the target (past the ball) rather than downward at the ball (it may help to think about release as a zone rather than a point, so that the release is happening "from the ball on through, " as Byron Nelson used to put it), people tend to object by saying something like "but my target, or release objective, _is_ the ball." But it isn't, and that's exactly the point. It can be a real game-changer for people to understand that the actual target is where they want the ball to end up, so that you're releasing _through_ the spot where the ball happens to be but _to_ the actual target.


That thing teachers say about "swinging through the ball like it's not there, " instead of anticipating the "hit" in a way that tends to make you run out of energy and off the rails, distorting path and plane and killing speed by thinking of the ball as sort of the "end" or objective of the swing, works for a reason.

As usual, useful content. That was an easy way to check if you have acceptable end of back swing position. I checked mine, and I have now the assurance that I have an acceptable back swing position/posture. Thank you for that. Now I have a way to check my back swing. Now I am thinking, that maybe I should do the drill to set me up correctly at the end of the back swing instead of the complicated usual way of doing the back swing.
