Do they really need a diversity policy and an inclusivity policy to figure this out ? Those terms are ridiculous and patronising. All it takes is basic manners to back off when somebody expresses their discomfort. If you need to know somebody's ethnicity ask them directly "So what's your ethnicity?" Again not randomly. So many people are justifying this nonsense. Hussey seemed to be particularly keen and snarky for somebody who is being painted as a poor old lady

If you ask someone where they're from and they say the UK, and you don't accept that as an answer, you're essentially saying "no, you aren't really British, what are you really". And clearly that's based on their skin colour. I don't see how anyone doesn't get it.

I have a question though. Is it okay to ask what someone's heritage is? I'd ask a European what country they're from without thinking about it.

Lady Hussey is a lady in waiting. If you had the rare privilege of tying some royal’s shoelaces, you would probably get some title or other, and feel a sense of entitlement and spend your time lording it over others. A historical example is the much coveted Groom of the Stool position. Groom of the Stool was responsible for attending to the King's toileting needs, and this role gave rare access to the king while he sat on the toilet. A quiet word in the king’s ear could promote someone at court or demote them. In many Britain is a silly country and the crowing glory of this silliness is the monarchy.

All the people on social media who are saying “oh, but she’s 83” or “someone shouldn’t be cancelled for one little gaffe”…….firstly, my mum, who was 80 when she died, raised me to know what racism was & that it was not acceptable. She would NEVER had racially harassed someone as happened here. And secondly, do these people actually believe that if Susan Hussey felt it was appropriate to act this way, touching someone’s hair & refusing to believe a black woman’s answer that she’s British, that this is the first time she’s exhibited racist behaviour?

If she was white, this would never had happened. These people (and I'd love to test this theory) get 6 people in a room, 2 black, 2 white and 2 (as the toffs say) Brown, only two of them are British, without any words being said get an old person or toff to pick the British people, they'll pick the white people, with no hesitation.

First time Susan Hussey has offended anyone? I wonder if she managed until this event to avoid contact with black people, so she hasn't had the opportunity to show her ignorance, rudeness and racism. I have met many Black British people who are loud and proud about their African ancestral heritage. Equally there are those who cannot trace their ancestral heritage for obvious reasons. Additionally, it's none of Susan Hussey's bloody business.
