I'm a Navy vet and served on an aircraft carrier and an ammunition ship. My main concern about this of ship would be the protection from attack. While I served on the ammunition ship we were well protected by a group of ships for obvious reasons. I hope for the safety of our sailors there is a robust defense chain of ships and other assets protecting this awesome ship.

These ships can be modified for many purposes It can be a drone mother ship. It can add landing pads for F35. It can add deck mounted missiles of all sorts. If they add more engine, it can house giant radar. The options are many.

When I was in the Persian Gulf in 1988 the USN was leasing two massive barges called Hercules and Wimbrown. The functioned as floating bases for Helicopters, Patrol Boats, and Special Forces. These ships look like they can do all that as well as act as motherships for small fleets of minesweepers which the USN was using an LPD to function in that role. I am glad to see the USN learning from past experience.

Hang on you may be looking directly at the US atm but Australia is the nation charged with maintaining security in the pacific nations. It is Australian resources used during political crisis or natural disasters, it is Australian money and trade agreements that influence pacific nations away from China, it is Australian visa and citizenship agreements offered to pacific countries like Kiribati! It is Australia that has secured pacts and agreements from the pacific nations!

I'm surprised it doesn't have CIWS or SAM systems fitted, considering how important it could be.

They named the ship for Chesty Puller USMC. Brilliant choice.
If you've got 5 minutes, read up or watch a video on Chesty Puller.

Don't forget the new surface mount instead of the VLT SM-6 launch platform the USS Puller is slated to test this system in 2025.

China only has SIX nuclear submarines. SIX. The rest are antiquated diesel tubes that even the oldest US submarine could hear across the world. The US has 67 submarines, and ALL are silent, nuclear powered, high-tech machines. It's also important to take into consideration the US Navy is the world's second largest air force that is more than capable of decimating almost any enemy Navy.

I think this class of ship would be a solid basis for new USNS Hospital ships. The massive open area could be reconfigured to house a traditional land based hospital without the problems of bulk heads and discontinuity allowing for easier movement of patients than on current hospital ships. The cranes and flight deck offer easy access. The flight deck for traditional medivac while the crane for RIBs with transfers from ships without helipads like submarines or direct return of injured spec ops personnel. The crane could also help with unloading humanitarian aid. You could even have a extendable side ramp to facilitate ambulances and ground search and rescue equipment when responding to disaster areas. It might have been mentioned but the massive fuel storage tanks can also hold fresh water supplied by the onboard desalination plant which would also be critical for disaster response.

Never underestimate the importance of actual combat experience. The USN has well over 100 years of naval combat under their belt. China hasn't fought for over 200 years on the sea. They know nothing.

It is as simple as that just think of this, which country is more prepared to invade the other, China has no way to invade continental USA while the entire USA military philosophy is based on invasion of the adversaries homeland thats why the biggest most important part of every branch of the military is logistics, air to air refueling, nuclear powered surface fleet. Its as simple as that.

With other friendly nations helping out logistical assistance is a given, in the advent of a war all nations will pin their hopes on USA and her allies 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧and drone replenishment for ship to ship total game changer
