When I must leave you for a little while, Please do not grieve and shed wild tears, And hug your sorrow to you through the years. But start out bravely with a gallant smile, And for my sake and in my name, Live on and do all things the same. Feed not your loneliness on empty days, But fill each waking hour in useful ways. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer, and I in turn will comfort you and hold you near. And never, never be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky. (A poem by Helen Steiner Rice) I send this to the Queen, the UK and all those who have lost loved ones.

Philip was a man of his time. He was born into a different world of empire and stiff upper lip and was the quintessential essence of Britain. He was often outspoken and was ridiculed for his old ways but also a man of integrity and great loyalty. He always supported the Queen and did a huge amount for his nominated charities. I think one of his greatest achievements was The Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme which steered a lot of young people on to the road of success. We need men like him now. I for one will miss him.
RIP HRH Prince Philip

They need to publish a book on his quips. One of my favorites of his, "When a man opens a car door for his wife, it's either a new car or a new wife." So true. RIP.

The Queens man of life and liege. Between them they've seen a lot of changes in their lives. 99 years is an amazing life.

When couples are together that many years ...they usually die close from a broken heart.
Strength to the Queen!

Prince Philip was on HMS Whelp and watched the signing of surrender in Tokyo Bay on the USS Missouri, he served in the British fleet in the Pacific and actively supported the US Navy in the Pacific war. This is only one of the events in history, that the Prince was involved with. Truly will be missed.

Am I mistaken or did I just watch 10 minutes of coverage about Prince Philip's life and legacy and not once hear mention of his service in the Second World War? His early life and service were pretty remarkable and set some of his difficulties in staying quiet behind the scenes in context, and I'm sort of amazed that almost the entirety of that was missed.

I am saddened by this news. He stood by her for so long and knew who he had to be for his Queen.

I truly do not think people today appreciate how long he served as a supporting consul. 70 years!!! God bless you sir. A job well done. More than one nation will be in mourning today.

Before you criticize Harry any more, remember it was Phillip who told Charles that he should marry someone pretty and stupid, produce an heir and a spare, and then he could do anything he wanted. Well, when the spare had been made triply redundant by another generation of an heir and two spares, perhaps it was time to move beyond his sparedom.

"He did his job very well". Nobody can get dressed up in the finest textiles, attend pomp & ceremony eating the very best food in the world and don't forget executing the Royal wave like Prince Phillip.

Strange, he said racist things in the past. But we all fondly remember him today. Louie CK can’t get a break but this guy is a-ok. What did I miss?

At the age of 16 he was forced to walk behind the coffin of his elder sister who was a Nazi sympathiser. Her coffin was draped in the Nazi flag. He was a veteran of the battles in Mediterranean. One of which he saved the destroyer in which he served. He was also a veteran of the Battle of Okinawa as part of Force 57.
