The five would-be astronauts in this film contemplate a possible one-way trip to Mars. A private foundation called Mars One plans to send a crew of four to colonize the red planet by 2025. The candidates have made it through the first round of the selection process. Here, they discuss why they'd leave Earth to live on Mars. It was a childhood dream for one applicant; another interviewee says he won’t miss people much. As they talk about the decision to leave Earth forever, they reflect on what would ultimately make them stay. This piece was a partnership between Vita Brevis Films and Video West.

I'm not a psychologist, but i see people who want to feel unique, want to feel special, and as a human condition want to feel loved. Why they think they will find this on Mars is not for me to say, only, they won't find it there and sadly, reality will sink in all too late.

I feel so sorry for the people who feel like they are unimportant on earth, don't they realize they will be even more lonely on Mars!? And wtf is wrong with that dad who is going to leave his family and go to Mars? He would be leaving his whole family and leaving his wife to support everyone and his kids would pretty much never know him because he is so young that is messed up and selfish these people will regret going there eventually they will never come back
