A bit late I know, but as a resident with a UK account, I have recently found it cheaper to pay almost everything by card. No bank withdrawal fees of approx 7% so you get charged the exchange date of the day without fees. Much better value and most shops/businesses are happy to swipe a card, meaning cash is reserved for tipping or small purchases

If there is more than %1.5 difference between buying and selling prices at the exchange office, dont exchange there. Most of the touristic places have better rates.

I am driving through Europe towards Turkey and I’m using both Revolut and Starling bank cards which give the best exchange rates. I hope it’s as easy in Turkey.

Look for a TEB cash machine. I'm not 100% sure however to the best of my knowledge they don't charge to withdraw money. Only your bank will charge the 3%* comission I think.
