2020 Mazda CX-30 G25 review | Australia

In the video, Amelia reviews the all-new Mazda CX-30 in the top of the line G25 Astina Trim.

Is there really room for another subcompact SUV? And from the same company that already offers the CX-3 and CX-5? I find it difficult to believe that Mazda doesn’t know what they are doing, but the CX-30 seems destined to bite into the sales of its siblings.

The engine in this Mazda CX-30 is NOT the new SkyActiv-X. It’s a G25, which stands for a 2.5 L SkyActiv-G engine. It produces 139 kW of power and 252 Nm of torque from 4,000 revs. In this trim level, it can be either FWD or AWD. There is another engine on lower trims and that is the G20, which is a 2 L petrol that produces 114 kW and 200 Nm from 4,000 revs.

I’d say there is definitely room for the CX30 and it looks like it’s here to stay. And I feel it will up the standard for other Mazda models.

FWD is front wheel drive not Four Wheel Drive… but still a good review

⚠️ G25 is the best engine choice here. be careful with Skyactiv-X engines:
1️⃣ they are overcomplicated, they add many things that can break up, like compressor with electromagnetic clutch, egr, particle filter (to prevent compressor from damages by exhaust particles because of recirculation...)
2️⃣ they suppose to run on very lean mixtures, but most of the time they don't despite spcci. as tested, the air-2-fuel ratio was only slightly above 14.7, like 16-18 for most of the time, the peak we managed was 26:1, but mazda was speaking about 36:1 .. no way.
3️⃣ as a result, fuel efficiency was average to say at least. not great, not terrible. the same for performance. actually, CX-30 with X is a mild-hybrid, I'd expect lower fuel consumption and better performance ... not happening.
4️⃣ those new engines are quite untested in real world, so long-term reliability is unknown.

I just purchased a 2020 Mazda CX 30 2.5L FWD Astina. Having traded in my Mazda 2015 CX 5 Maxx Sport AWD . The CX 30 is just a fantastic SUV in my opinion. Its ideal for us as I did not want a CX 3 ( too small) and I did not want a CX 5 ( too big) . CX 30 is ideal. Just wish Mazda would have installed a 12V cigarette lighter power source for my portable fridge in the boot area like the CX 5. .

Good review and not a bad choice if your upgrading from a Mazda 3 and your not huge fan of the current model.

Mazda need to make the cladding body coloured -- its worse than the CX-5 in thickness, big eyesore. Stone leather interior is very good looking. Uphill overtaking, not great with the NA engine.

My Mazda 3 has high touch screen and central console knob, and the screen is closer. The touch screen can't be used when going over a certain speed. Imo this new Non touch screen on the cx30 is a major disappointment. Telsas are only touch screen. Mazda should give people a choice. Apple car play without a touchscreen wouldn't be fun to use.
