For me, having the notepad and writing the exact number of weight, sets and reps for all of the exercises was a game changer. I spent so much time on the gym without taking notes, just doing exercises to one or two reps before failure and nothing else. After I started writing down the reps, sets and weight, I always try do to at least one more rep on each session for each exercise (I follow a upper/lower routine). Writing down everything forces me into progressive overloading everything, it doesn´t matter if is just one more rep, it is a slow but sure way of progress.

I got something out of this. Great video as always. I really love how this channel has some of the sincerely best tips but also adds comedy to not take it all too seriously. Keep it up guys! Your channel is my favorite bodybuilding channel on YT.

The gym is what keeps depression at bay, for me. I notice I slip back into it every time I've been gone from the gym for a while. I recently started going consistently again, because I felt like crap. One week into my new routine, and I'm already feeling tons better. My mind is clearer, I'm generally speaking more motivated and disciplined and I'm actually enjoying myself also outside the gym.

That's motivation enough for me.

That layers hack is so true!
Extra bonus tip: If you are feeling really self conscious you can go to the gym in one of those padded superhero costumes - covers all of the physical most.

What motivates me most lately is that there are real natty dudes like the Buff Dudes. They have kept me on the straight and narrow, but longer and healthier route. Getting close to my 7th year. Thanks guys.

I found my best hack a couple months after I started working out. Once I learned to stop concerning myself with what other dudes were lifting (and how it was so much more than what I was lifting) I was able to not only focus better on my own workout, but also I started to enjoy the gym. For me, that was very important. Working out is still one of my favourite parts of the day. Whatever your level of buff-ness, stay buff, y'all! 👍

Awesome! The exercise alternatives are super useful and that's what I love about your channel. I workout at home and use your plans but don't have access to a lot of specialized equipment. So if I come across something I can't do, I literally just search your channel and always find an alternative. And then something like barbell hack squats actually becomes a favorite of mine on leg day!

Do foam rolling / mobility during your breaks! Bring the mobility gear with you to the equipment you are using. You can add a lot of mobility work without adding any overall workout time.

+2 on the mirrors. I didn't look at them for fear of becoming ego'ccentric like others and developed some shoulder posture imbalances I've been trying to correct for years now. Now any time I do a lift I'm using the mirror. I've gotten it corrected I think, but now my workouts are so much better because the mirror motivates me more when I see the workout pump. It's definitely a positive hack. I also started in on a gym bag in recent years since those collars for barbells are missing sometimes, I started carrying my own. Then I carried some bands, and now I do bands in between sets to accentuate the muscles I am focusing on and I have to say that's taken my workouts to another level. Most excellent video for those starting out. I've been lifting since 1999 when I was 15 and only in the past few years have I started using these "hacks." I wish I would have known sooner. I didn't know you guys did bands, ordering the set and book now.

Keep these coming!

Perhaps one day you guys could do a series on the Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding? (Encyclopedia of Staying Buff?)

Like history of the amendments/chapters/etc.
It’s an iconic book and could be really awesome if told/demo’d by you guys. Or even updated with the knowledge you’ve gained over the years
