Don’t forget the fear of hearing footsteps coming closer to your room

It’s terrifying when you come home and have no idea if they’re gonna yell at you for something that isn’t even your fault

Remember, treating your children like this won't make them obedient people, it'll just make them masterful liars.

Let’s not forget how they blame electronics for everything and tell us to do something more productive 😢

To be honest, it's like FNAF 4 while I'm in my room. I've memorized the footsteps and breathing of my family, the time they usually go upstairs, what they do all day, and I hide my devices, books, clear all my chats, and hide all my games on external hard drives. I also listen for doors, light switches and cars, and I feel like strict/over-protective parents raise pretty different people to their expectations. For example, one of my friends with strict parents masturbates, and I do things like listen to adult music, play adult games, watch adult things and know a lot about adult topics. I hide so much from them. I even lie about my grades sometimes. One time I just happened to turn off my laptop when my dad came in my room and he immediately opened it and tried to log in and asked what I was doing. Even when I'm doing something innocent, I turn it off and get anxious.

Needing to hide your sadness because they either
1) dont believe you
2) will take away things from you that they think are the issue, when it's quite the opposite
3) will blame you.

the worst three things:
1. you can’t close the door to your room even when you’re changing
2. when you go out you have to text your parents every 15 minutes about where you are
3. you can recognize their steps or how they breathe

And eventually you get to the point that anger and yelling does not affect you at all. Someone could be cursing your existence at the top of their lungs and you sit there with a straight face feeling no remorse or pain, however if someone comes to you and says very gently "hey what you did was not good" your heart breaks into millions because the gentle disappointment of others is more effective than the yelled out degrading of your parents. My parents only recently noticed this and are trying to get better. My dad had pointed it out about a year ago and since then my mom has been treating me a bit more fairly than previously. But it is still something that I deal with.

It's crazy how a stranger in the internet comforts the most of us more than our own parents....

When you're not even doing anything wrong yet you hide things from them because you know they'll make a problem out of it.

This is so true, I tried to tell my parents that they were giving me depression and that I might be showing signs of ADHD, and they just yelled at me😢

Your parents questioning you when you flinch when come too close to you is another one for me. Lol. They always be so suspicious. (I make jokes over my trauma, lol)

The fact my parents say they aren’t “that” strict but I relate to them all isn’t okay
