Gas Density
Показать описание
Learn what impacts the density of a gas. Temperature and pressure both impact the density of a gas.
The density of a gas is affected by its temperature and pressure.According to Charles law, the temperature of a gas is directly proportional to it’s volume. As the temperature increases, its molecules move faster and have more space between them. This causes the gas to expand. As the gas expands so will its volume which will cause the density to decrease. This is how hot air balloons rise. The heated air becomes less dense than the surrounding air. As the pressure of a gas increases, the molecules are forced closer together and the gas contracts. This causes the gas's density to increase.
Boyle's law states that for a fixed amount of gas at a constant temperature the volume of the gas is inversely related to pressure. So as pressure increases volume decreases and the density of the gas will increase.
