ALSO I just wanted to say this is my two cents as a language fan and Percy Jackson nerd, explaining why a show about Greek gods would use a Greek pronunciation. HOWEVER, names are SO nuanced and arguably the trickiest part of languages. THEREFORE, if your friend or someone you know pronounces THEIR OWN NAME as "Tallia", RESPECT THEIR NAME and pronounce it however THEY want it pronounced. This is just some fun reader discourse, don't be a brat in real life.

I pronounce it Tall-ia because that’s how the only person I know with that name pronounced it. So that’s how I say it. Tbh, how you pronounce a name depends on the person whose name it is. Of course there are original pronunciations, but there can be correct pronunciation that aren’t how it is originally pronounced in its language or origin.

Though curiously enough while this is seemingly true in the more modern Greek (I haven't studied it) I was taught that in the ancient Attic pronunciation, Theta was an aspirated consonant so would have been pronounced as a hard T - so would have been pronounced Talia then.

This is thorn [þ] it was originally used in old English as the 'th' sound but eventually was removed, to replaced [þ] the added a 'y' instead that's why you see 'ye old tavern' instead of 'the old tavern' it's because 'ye' was originally writing like this þe

Thats not even how names work. When they hit other languages or exist for extended time, they shift and develop new sounds. Talia is a perfectly acceptable name, unless your planning on calling every José, Ivan and Giovanni John.

I used to say Thalia but while I was reading TTC I saw a Movie Flame video and he said Thalia (with a TH) and talked about how everyone said Tahlia. After that I always pronounced it with a TH and told anyone who said it wrong what it actually was, I never pressed them to change, just informed them what it was actually

I'm Italian and in the Italian version of the pjo books it's spelled "Talia" but anyway I've been pronouncing that right since the beginning somehow :D

But your forgetting one key part: the author thought it was Talia, and therefore thats how the name should be pronounced for this specific character, because that was what the author INTENDED her name to sound like
