My thoughts and opinions on the new feature which allows players to choose people they want to avoid as teammates.

"Is this a guy or girl?" Wouldn't you like to know 😉

This is probably why they are limiting it to 2 blocks.

Torb, Symmetra, widow, and Hanzo players will have to wait 10 mins for a match

but we can't expect everyone to be okay with one tricks :/

Hi hoshi!

Also I agree with you 100% on this, it is going to encourage bad behavior when you're in teamchat and they say "Oh its a Symmetra main just block him" Or whatever it will be called. I hope they keep a close eye on this new feature it could go terribly wrong.

It’s only 2 people, so it’s not gonna work as there are definitely more than 2 throwers

Can we have a preferred role select for competitive play? It's really sad when you find 5 dps on your team and no one can tank or support..

I haven't seen any overwatch news youtuber talks about this part. But let it be known that the "Avoid as Teammate" will only take the player out of your matchmaking placements for ONE WEEK. That means that you would have to click avoid as teammate button on all those people you dislike repeatedly each week if you are that salty with them.
You can read it under paragraph 5 of the Scott Mercer post.

They're going about things all the wrong way. They need to create a role selection / team builder tool to help players work together to build a balanced team and promote, well, teamwork.

This is going to bomb horribly because everyone that hates non-meta heroes will have a field day with this. Just look at Your Overwatch's latest video on this topic. The thumbnail and example in the video is directly targeting "Symmetra one tricks".
A giant step backwards, as usual with Blizzard.

I swear I'm only playing because I need to know how this upcoming Symmetra rework will be as it will determine if I keep playing this game.

As usual, much love from Florida to you Hoshi! I love your new news posts lately they're so refreshing and nice. Keep them up

One tricks will probably suffer from this update thingy. Btw, I’m so jealous of that skin, I didn’t get it :(

The hypothetical famous streamer avoiding non-meta players wouldnt be able to block all of them anyway, just two

This will likely be abused, it’s good it has a cap of two at a time, but that means trolls will target streamers.. only a few people will probably end up avoiding non-meta mains, but the small minority will effect a large majority of 6 man teams from having those players join and thus at high ranks this will almost certainly kill the game for those who main or one trick anything off meta.. the trouble with this is how it might stifle the meta changing.. I can see some Mei mains getting this treatment after the buffs come through just as she’s becoming viable.. once again this will actually effect the top tiers more and so in essence the meta will start changing in lower ranks first before things start changing on high ranks, a tend usually the other way around..
all I can say is I hope these hero buffs and reworks come in sharpish, the game needs to have better viability for these fringe heroes in the hopes that reasonable players will lessen the effects from toxic ones because the general playbase will see the characters as meta-enough..
but this will also mean the devs will have to try even harder to balance these things which they have a complex and troubled history attempting to do..
this could be the death of creativity and unique compositions in competitive if they don’t..
I don’t want to be overly cynical though, perhaps the devs have done the math and they know it shouldn’t be a major problem and they are prepared to make big moves to adjust it as well as punish those that the system picks up are abusing the new feature somehow..
I wonder if they could have come up with something more nuanced then this.. Like a “buff” to the player prefer system that lists and keeps track of the people you have preferred and tells you what rank they are at and a change to the matchmaker that looks to avoid you playing with the same people game after game by itself, so as to prevent situations you end up with the same throwing people and bad one tricks, without actually making it personal and or breed toxicity

The overwatch beta had something like this but it didnt have a limit, and because their wasnt many players and people have no remorse, a widow main would get stuck in multiple hour long queues because almost EVERYONE one the server had the avoid option on them. I hope this doesnt happen again.

I think if you want to play a certain hero more than you want to win, then competitive is not the environment for you. Teamplay over fun, bro. Just how Blizzard wants it.

So does this mean pro sym players will get long queue times for no reason at all other than beacuse they play "non-meta" picks?

With all due respect, if someone is on my team is not playing a meta pick, I never get upset until they get intentionally hard countered (pharahmercy to counter sym, etc.) and if, after everyone asks, they don’t switch to something else, then I get upset. Obviously, we can still win even against counters, but if a teammate’s inability to switch will force us to fight an uphill battle that otherwise could have been easily won, I would prefer to not play with them.

Symmetra is off meta, but as long as you can acknowledge when it’s just not working and switch then I don’t mind. If it works the whole game, and you’re getting these dope kills don’t switch, that’s okay! But if you genuinely will never switch NO MATTER WHAT, then it’s ridiculous.

Do I hate sym mains? No. I hate sym mains that dont switch when it's not helping the team. With all due respect it's a competitive game. I personally feel that if you keep running you favorite hero into a situation where it's no longer working out it will hurt you team instead help your team. I like this change personally.

I think they know it'll bully off-meta mains and push them to play someone else or not play comp.
They know they can't make it reportable offense, so they're just encouraging it in others way.
It's almost like they're admitting that some heroes are poorly balanced and designed.

AndiYosh

This new feature only works with games with perfect balance.

Hence why it will never work in Overwatch.

They should've make "prefer this player" to actually work rather than this.

My only disagreement is that you're acting like Blizzard doesn't know that this will effect off-meta players. Blizzard knows what they're doing, this is their way of having it both ways so that they can say that playing non-meta heroes is technically ok but still let people avoid them. I think Blizzard is trying to find a way to 'subtly' punish non-meta heroes without saying it because if they say it then they're no longer that cool FPS game where you can play any hero you want
